Denny Knappen Posted December 23, 2024 Report Posted December 23, 2024 I used to buy the tokens from Steve Good, but he is not responding. I saw somewhere that several are using branding irons. Any suggested manufacturer and comments? Quote
rjweb Posted December 23, 2024 Report Posted December 23, 2024 Yes Steve has been having health issues, I just write with a fine marker, a lot of people are getting lasers and using them, RJ Quote
JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted December 23, 2024 Report Posted December 23, 2024 I used a branding iron for many years and still do. It is the basic heat till ready to apply. After awhile you get a feel when that is and how many brands you can get before you have to reheat. To me works great I got a custom made one with my name. Man I tried to remember the name of the company but I do know I found them in the back of a woodworking magazine. After checking on a woodworking site to ask if they were any good I got the OK. I will look to see if I can find the name. Quote
Scrappile Posted December 23, 2024 Report Posted December 23, 2024 I have one but rarely use it. If you buy one spend the money and buy an electric one. Mine I have to heat up with a torch, and I never seem to get a good even heat. And it takes too long. My solution was Steve's wood tokens. I hope he is not going to quit making them. Quote
Gonzo Posted December 23, 2024 Report Posted December 23, 2024 I have one and I purchased it from Rockler. I like it but I have to be careful not to get the iron (electric) too hot, otherwise it “blurs” my brand. Quote
kmmcrafts Posted December 23, 2024 Report Posted December 23, 2024 IF you're looking for the tokens I could probably laser those from some BBply if you have a design made up or can get someone to design what you want.. I'm assuming you're talking about the little 1" diameter circles with your logo engraved on them? Pretty sure Steve was doing those on a laser. I've been meaning to make up a design for my things and do the same thing. Heck if I can get my hands on some 1/8" cherry or other types of ply I could make them from anything 1/8" or less thick. I'm not big on doing designing work but if you get a SVG type file I can make them. Quote
Millwab Posted December 24, 2024 Report Posted December 24, 2024 I have a Walnut Hollow wood burning kit and found that Wall Lenk can make a custom logo that screws into the tool. Only possible drawback is the logo can’t exceed 0.75” x 0.75” (which worked for me). Quote

Since Steve would not ship to Canada I had a member of our club do some for me. Bellow are the ones I did. I did in different sizes but only really used the 1 inch. I also did the design for another Canadian.. kmmcrafts 1 Quote
barb.j.enders Posted December 24, 2024 Report Posted December 24, 2024 At this point, I only sign my initials - BE. The way I write it, it flows together. Quote
Roberta Moreton Posted December 24, 2024 Report Posted December 24, 2024 Steve isn’t responding to emails rifht now. I usually just send an order with payment. It does take a while to get them. I order a few dozen at a time. Quote
BadBob Posted December 24, 2024 Report Posted December 24, 2024 There are a lot of branding irons available on Amazon. I would go for the electric one with a temperature control. I have wanted one of these for years but hesitated because of the cost and because the smallest branding iron is too large for most things I make. Quote
TAIrving Posted December 24, 2024 Report Posted December 24, 2024 I use a small 5" x 5" laser engraver. I have designed my own logo. I can adjust the size of the logo to fit the item I am engraving. I can adjust the intensity of the burn for different types of wood. And I never have to worry about it burning darker on one side than the other. All this for just a little bit more than the price of a branding iron. Quote
Dave Monk Posted December 24, 2024 Report Posted December 24, 2024 I just bought a new signature branding Iron. Received it a couple weeks ago. My old one burned up. Time will tell how it lasts. It was sure cheap enough. Total cost was 107.98 https://www.etsy.com/listing/472608646/signature-branding-iron-custom-and?ref=yr_purchases Quote
rjweb Posted December 24, 2024 Report Posted December 24, 2024 Dave, is it an electric or do you need to heat up, Thx, RJ Quote

I would be able to ship to Canada but our northern friends may not like the shipping cost.. I think for the cheapest mailing I can do is like around $15 U.S. for up to I think 5 or 6oz package.. I wouldn't do them in the cards like Steve does I don't think because you're just paying shipping on scrap wood. I imagine there could be quite a few little 1" tokens that could ship for that 6oz. package.. Not to take away from what is supporting Steve but if anyone is having issues getting them from him I'd be willing to help make up a batch of them.. Quote
