Pareest Posted December 31, 2024 Report Posted December 31, 2024 Want to buy a dependable scroll saw with light and dust blower. What do you recommend in the $350-400 range? That email address is mine. Quote
OCtoolguy Posted January 1 Report Posted January 1 My first suggestion is always check around and see what used saws are available in your area. I have never bought a new saw. I have always purchased top line used saws for very reasonable prices. Where are you located? If you must buy new, then there are not many in that price range. But, Harbor Freight has just brought out their copy of the Excalibur/Pegas that is getting good reviews so far. They are very new though so there is not much feedback yet as to their durability. If you want a tried and true saw, watch for deals on the Dewalt 788. It has been around a very long time with few changes. They are built in Taiwan I believe and seem to hold up well. Good luck with whatever you buy. Let us all know what you end up with and welcome to the Village. Quote

The only new saw in that price range is the Bauer scroll saw available from Harbor Freight or the Wen LL2156. If it were me, I would be patient and look for something used. It is possible to find used saws that are in like-new or nearly-new condition. I found a Pegas saw that was purchased and never used. Look for a used Excalibur EX-21 made in Taiwan. You can buy parts for these and rebuild them if needed. Lights are no big deal. You can add what you need after you get the saw. I have never seen a scroll saw that didn't have some kind of blower.
