red river Posted January 4 Report Posted January 4 The last time I bought any 1/4 in baltic birch plywood was in 2021 and I bought 3 5x5 sheets . Today, I went to my local distributor, ( not a big box store ) a plywood and door wholesaler. The same one I have used in the past. It was $ 7.00 more a sheet, but I expected that. What I did'nt expect was that the veneer was much thinner.( damn near paper thin ) I put it up against an old scrap piece just to see. It is a good looking sheet with no voids and no football patches, just skimpy on the veneer. I'll have to be careful when I sand. Just wanted to see if anyone else has come across this. Hope everyone is doing well. Thanx.....forrest OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted January 4 Report Posted January 4 There are different grades of BB. It is really hard to find the real good grade anymore, at least where I live. I have been ordering from Ocooch and receive good grades. But it gets expensive with shipping costs. Last time I looked locally at a store that specializes in plywood, they had sheets of junk that I would not consider buying. JTTHECLOCKMAN and OCtoolguy 1 1 Quote
rash_powder Posted January 6 Report Posted January 6 I have seen a few videos about birch plywood, and the quality that import birch plywood has. Not Baltic Birch, just Import Birch; which makes no sense since both are imported. I guess the import birch is from Asia or somewhere like that. Regardless, its competitively priced and of good quality. Might be something to look into. Quote
kmmcrafts Posted January 6 Report Posted January 6 I'm wondering if the picker guy picked off the wrong stack? My local supplier has a few different grades and even different manufactures of the this stuff.. some are even in 4 x 8 sheets instead of the 5 x 5 sheets.. One year I bought 10 sheets and it was like this.. when I got back home is when I realized it.. I went ahead and used it but it was pretty cheap stuff.. next time I was in getting some wood I mentioned it and they said they had a new guy working in the warehouse and he kept mixing up what they was selling and it was likely a mistake.. I was just there 4-5 weeks ago and bought 20 sheets.. all was good quality still so I don't think they're cheapening up the stuff.. I just think there may have been a mistake of some sort. Quote
