Corsi-rosenthal filter

Thanks posting. I was excited but after reading the article and thinking of the cost, for us sawdust makers an air filtration system like the Wen or Rikon, both well under $200, have many advantages, including cost over a few years. The CFM for the Wen is 400, compared to 239 for the Corsi-R. The Wen takes up less shop space as it's smaller and hangs from the ceiling. It has a remote control for power and fan speed.

The Corsi-R has to be totally disassembled to change the filters. This system was designed to remove viruses, which is good, but the least concern in my shop. I'll use a filtration system to help remove dust and a mask to protect my lungs.

Dan, I thought this was an interesting idea. Yes, the concept could be modified to be more user friendly, but each modification would add to the cost. I saw a three speed fan with a remote and a CFM of 2000; I know the filters will reduce the airflow and the better the filter the more the reduction.

Another item I saw on Amazon was a set of clips designed for box fans and 1" filters, who knew?

My brother built something similar to this and he says it works great.. his is just a homemade deal with box fan and a box with filters on all sides.. I've not seen it being used as he lives in another state but he claims it works really well.. If it weren't for the space this would take up I'd consider building one myself..

I was thinking about all of this and thought about the evaporative coolers we used when I was a kid growing up in Arizona.

I found one at Home Depot that is rated at 6800 CFM, if I cut the top to allow a fifth filter ( it's a down draft model ) I could replace the Aspen pads with MERV 13 filters. This would change the air in the shop twice a minute. If I positioned the down draft directly over the saw, it would blow away all the sawdust, small pieces of debris, and small children. It would eliminate the need for a respirator as well.

This will fit in the rafters of my shop, so I wouldn't lose any floor space.

Overkill???

🤣😜😭😉😆

I placed a floor fan on a rolling cart next to my scrollsaw.  I have a small 12v fan on my magnifying lamp arm.  The small fan gives a small air flow from right of the blade to left toward the big floor fan. I put a filter on the input of the floor fan.

The purple dust shown on the filter is from 10 hours of cutting purpleheart.
