Popular Post heppnerguy Posted January 21 Popular Post Report Posted January 21 Bamboo is a material that I love for cutting when I can get it. I loved this Leopard pattern, of which I can not remember who designed it but I would love to that the author of it for making it available. The bamboo is about 3/8 thick and cuts very nicely with no fuzzies from drilling of cutting. I cut it with a #1 Pegas spiral blade because it goes so much quicker and a lot easier to do than a straight blade. I sprayed it with 3 layers of Deft semi gloss. I am constantly looking for somewhere to purchase the Bamboo wood at the size and thickness I want to use. It seems to be a little difficult to find around Phoenix but I know it has to be here waiting for me to make a purchase. I used a 1/4 inch BB Ply for the backer board. I cut this a couple of weeks ago but have not gotten around to taking a photo and posting it until now. Dick heppnerguy ScrollerGuy, Scrolling Steve, barb.j.enders and 20 others 23 Quote

Tomanydogs Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 Very nicely done Dick. I like cutting bamboo also. For scrolling projects I buy cutting boards that are made from bamboo, even the dollar store sells them. heppnerguy 1 Quote

barb.j.enders Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 Looks great Dick. The style reminds me of a Russ Beard pattern. Wonder if this is one of his? heppnerguy 1 Quote

wombatie Posted January 25 Report Posted January 25 First of all, terrific work Dick. Second try Googling Bamboo ply wood in your area. Third you can usually find some cheap chopping boards in cheap stores. Marg heppnerguy 1 Quote

I do see several people who claim to either be shorted on their order or the pieces were cracked or gouged when received. The price is really good but I'm not sure if the size is enough for me. I probably will give it a shot. Again, thanks for the link. Dick heppnerguy Quote

I don't have any fuzzies from it and even though it appears to be quite dense it cuts very nicely. Dick heppnerguy Quote

So many just sort of give up on spirals. I was the same way and then I realized that the people I see using them enjoy doing ones that are really challenging so I decided to try them again. It did not take too long to get a handle on them. The secret for me was to run my saw at half or more speed, progress at a steady pace while cutting, really important to let the blade do the cutting, and I always cut using the outer part of the blade (on the line I am cutting and the center of the blade in the waste area) to be on the line I am cutting. Continue your cut without hesitation, again slow and easy being guided by both of my hands, the one pushing ever so gentle that is guiding the direction of the intended cut. Hope this helps as it did not take much time to understand what I needed to do. Dick heppnerguy Quote
