newblader99 Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 I've heard of people making their own table inserts for their scroll saws. My question is what do you make them out of. Thank you for having a place for my?????? Quote

chippygeoff Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 There are a number of materials you can use. I have found formica to be good and also thin plywood. The good thing about making your own inserts is that you can have a very small hole for fine fret work etc. If you are going to use metal plate for an insert be sure to put a wooden sub table on your saw first. Travis Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 I usually cut a slit in a business card and slide it around the blade, then tape it to the saw. This is usually enough support for me. If I really need solid zero-clearance, I'll drill a hole in a large 1/4" plywood board (12" square or so) and thread my blade trough it the hole. Then tape the board to my saw with double stick tape. That also gives a bit of support. I usually add packing tape to the surface so my workpiece slides easier, though. amazingkevin 1 Quote
dust4tears Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 I second the card idea. But, I would recommend using one of those magnet business cards. They are usually think enough that they can provide the zero clearance, and with the magnet, it stays pretty well~ (I have done it on my Porter Cable saw that has that 'T' shape insert) susieq4131 1 Quote

What an excellent idea. SQ Quote
