woodworks44 Posted February 12 Report Posted February 12 I'm an intermediate to advanced woodworker but need to make a few things that require a scroll saw. First time buyer. Is this a good deal at the $300 asking price? I can't tell how old it is, but looks to be decent condition. Thanks in advance. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted February 12 Report Posted February 12 That's a very old version of a very good saw. The asking price is too high. Hawk makes great saws but have improved many things over the years so you need to do some homework if you want a Hawk. Bushton Mfg. is the latest owner of the brand and has a website where you can look up the serial numbers to see what vintage the saw might be. $250 - $500 is the price range for a good-condition saw that has all the latest upgrades. They make a 20 and a 26-inch saw. There is a ton of info here to read but it will take some time. The saw you pictured would not be my choice. Best of luck. Quote
JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted February 12 Report Posted February 12 It is not a VS that I see. Not sure if they ever made a belt and pulley system. There are parts laying on the shelf. I do not see the wedge. There is no up front blade tension system. I would pass on this and keep looking. Unless you want a challenge but would not offer $300. Not sure what motor is on that one either. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
woodworks44 Posted February 12 Author Report Posted February 12 I found a 2021 Dewalt 20" for $260 asking. I'll probably just make an offer on that instead. Thanks for the advice. My decision was much easier as a result. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted February 12 Report Posted February 12 The model number indicates it to be a single speed.. unless someone has upgraded it at some point. Normally the ones that had the belt drive pulley system had a model number such as 220-3 or 226-3 etc.. and yes as others said very old and many of the old ones had motor issues but mostly on the variable speed models.. I'd not do more than $100 - 150 for one like this and it'd have to be a super shape for that much money.. Keep looking.. The RBI Hawks are awesome saws built like a tank.. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

I saw some great deals today in my area. One was a newer Hawk with all the bells for $75 because the seller is moving and needs it gone. I was tempted but already had a 226 Ultra and sold it because it was too big for my shop. I'm in So Cal. Quote
