I usually try to stand up and stretch after 10 - 15 minutes behind the scroll saw. Yesterday, I sat for over an hour and boy I needed to stretch. How about you? Do you stretch or do something else while scrolling to keep from getting fatigued?

I usually get caught up on what I am working on an forget time then the numbness in my hands and legs start ringing the break bell, I think that taking a short break (five minutes or so every thirty minutes or so is perhaps a good idea to keep the blood flowing

I usually sit for a couple hours at a time and scroll, getting up to take breaks when needed. especially when the back or butt starts to ache from sitting. I normally have a couple things going, so I can work on something else while taking " a break".

It depends on the dog. 1/2 hour to 45 min is about all she can stand before flopping the Frisbee in my lap. We go play for 10 min or until she quits on me, then that gives me another 1/2 hour or so before she comes around again. Works out well. Haha.

I can usually do about an hour.. then the album on the ipod is done, and I have to go pick another, so it's my reason to get up for a min or two, then back to it.. I usually tend to only do about 3 hrs max before I'm done for the day.

I usually sit for and half an hour or so and if the weather is nice I usually walk in the garden grab a couple of weeds then go back, but if its a frustrating pattern I go for more walks and more cups of coffee.

How Long Do You Sit Behind The Scroll Saw?

Dunno, I have been scrollin' since the mid 1960's and have never sat down....stand only....until now!

Just got my NEW Excalibur EX-21 Thursday. I have it all set up and raring to go. It will be the first scroll saw I can actually sit down to do some scrollin'. My existing RBI 220VS is not suited to sit behind, I have stood behind it since 1994. That's a lot of standing. All the cheapie other scroll saws before the RBI I stood also.

Going to get started today and work on my 2 fretwork clocks. I'm in my 70's now and standing for long periods is not much fun. I have the front legs a little lower than the back on the Excalibur stand and it makes seeing my cut lines better, couldn't do that with the RBI unless I bought a new stand which just became available. Besides, I wanted a new toy anyway. I'm still planning on using the RBI, but I will keep it setup for outside cuts only which I use the 5 PGT blade or a FD to do.

I probably will spend more time on the EX-21 now since I can sit. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to sittin' and scrollin'.

Usually about an hour before I take a break, I prefer to stand most of the time and when my legs start to give out I sit down. This 81 year old body is not what it used to be especially when the arthritis flairs up.
