Ornaments

I'm looking to make several ornaments for the holidaiys. And I'm looking for ether thin wood or metals that would be cheep. Do any of you know of any places (like Home Depot) that would sell them?

You can try eBay. They have a lot of exotic woods. My other site, wooddealsonline.com takes eBay wood listings and breaks it out by species and wood character. http://www.thinboards.com/ is a good resource too. Some folks like cutting ornaments from old CDs and DVDs.

 

Also, call around to a few cabinet shops and ask for their scraps. Those are usually just the right size for scroll saw work.

I USE 1/8 BALTIC BIRCH AND CUT 3 AT A TIME.

the birch from the big box stores is very strong and easy to cut.and comes in 2'x2' or 2' x 4' 1/8" or 1/4 ".

I resaw wood to 3/16" then plane it down to 1/8".. I think hardwood looks better than ply.. especially if being left with a clear finish.

Wood out of scrap bin at the local cabinet makers shop, usually FREE

I found some 1/4" Aspen at HD last week. Planed it to 3/16" and cuts really nice stacked by 3's. Is light colored and clear.
