realfEZ
Hi, I have been running an Arabic calligraphy design service on my blog for months now. Some visitor to my blog, from Texas, is interested in having some scroll saw work done for a friend's birthday. The gift idea is to have the friend's name (In arabic calligraphy) scrolled out on wood. I can provide the pattern if anyone (more or less near in the area) is ready to do the cutting, eventually the framing and the mailing jobs. In the picture below, Linda (AiNationalGuardMom) has done a similar work to what I'm thinking about : except that I think it should be rectangular and framed. You'll have to make an estimation of how much it'll cost, that either of us will have to transmit to the client, who will make the final order (or not). PS1 : The pattern is rather simple. PS 2 : birthday is on the 2nd of June. Anyone? fEZ.
realfEZ
Here are three simulations of the pattern applied on some wood texture images.
Travis
Anybody interested in cutting this project for fEZ and sending it to his client in TX? It looks like an easy project. I think fEZ would do it himself, but he lives all the way in Algeria and shipping it stateside would be difficult for him. Who knows, it could lead to more work if he gets more stateside orders. blame
i'm going to use a piece of spalted curly maple stock, what do you guys suggest i use for the frame? something dark? wish i had time to allow some of my mulberry to age in the sun. im going to try and get this shipped out 2morrow if i can! mulberry when freshly cut is a bright yellow but as it ages it turns from yellow to reddish brown to reddish brown gray. i should take some pics of the 3 stages i have in turning stock. realfEZ
...what do you guys suggest i use for the frame? something dark?... Hi Blame, If you're going to use a dark backer, then yes, a dark frame will be a colour "reminder"(?)... If you see what I mean- I don't know if reminder is the right word... Cheers. fEZ. blame
Well guys here it is with out a finish! i started to frame it but found it was way to "busy" looking. what do you think?
Vector01
Looks great!! That wood really makes it stand out. I can see some serious clear coating on that piece. With that intricate wood pattern I think a frame wood take away from the natural beauty of the wood.
Travis
Absolutely beautiful. I'd leave it exactly as is. Good job, Blame. The customer will be thrilled!

blame
Thanks guys i thought the piece of wood was the perfect fit. i started cutting the walnut for the frame and it just didnt look right to me. so i turned around part of the shorter sides of the frame and thou, Wow! that looks really good, so i then cut the base from a thicker piece of stock and planed it down cut a 15deg 1/2" dado for the plaque to sit in. was a fun project. i've put 2 coats of poly on it so far, waiting for it to dry so i can sand it and apply the 3rd coat.
