mike54
I'm trying to scroll after 6 years it's not going well. I used to have a great setup with a var. speed 16" delta. I set it up on a stand I could sit it a office desk chair my eye sight was better & I had better lighting. The saw I have now the stand is high so I have to stand or sit on a stool, my eye sight is not the best and the lighting sucks I don't think I can make a shorter stand because the motor is underneath the saw so I'll have to find a better stool, can't fix my eye sight,& I need to find a better light. Dan
Mike, My eyes started going a few years ago so my wife bought me a lighted magnifying lamp. I use it all the time and it works great for me. Some folks don't like them, but I suggest giving it a try. As for the table height, I have a stool that is just about high enough. I'd like it just a little higher, but I think I will just cut the legs down a little instead of raising the chair. I did raise the back of the scroll saw stand so the table tilts down and that helps a bit.
Travis
I wonder if something like this will help (pictured below). I've seen some folks use it and it seems to work well for them. You can also try the magnifier lamp Dan mentioned. I know my dad uses one and he likes it. Good magnification and it adds the extra light. My dad likes a taller stand on his saw, so he bought one of those Craftsman stools. It's padded with a back rest. But I agree, I like my stand about desk level and using a office chair. I find it more comfortable. Don't give up. Play around with your setup until your comfortable. Once you have a nice area to scroll, you won't regret it. Try a bar stool with a back and for the lighting you can add as much as you need. I agree with what Travis showed you.. I have one very similar to that but with lights on the sides. It comes in very handy. DW
wombatie
I have a bar stool with a back and I wouldn't be without it. I have a height problem also which I can't do anything about because I am only 5' 1" LOL I also have a magnetic lamp on the side of my saw and that works a treat. Marg. bubbaloo158
I bought a magnafier lamp a couple of weeks ago and am now wondering how I ever did without it. I am still pretty new to scrolling and when I compare my work that I do with the magnafier to what I was doing before it, I can see that it has improved my cutting a LOT. No more am I intimidated by those tiny inside cuts. Everything looks huge under the magnafier. The light is a vast improvement over the light that came with my DW788 as well. amazingkevin
im not sure if the pictures show my saw but it's over 4.6 feet above the ground on 4 wheels ,a roll around working box shop.i sit on a tall wood chair that lets my legs dangle down which keeps them from falling asleep. The saw is one foot raised in the back so i can see very good and i use a bright 150watt bulb right above the the speed adjustment on the dewalt.this works for me. the saw is 1 foot raised in the back behind the triangle shaped piece of wood.i'll have to take better pictures but not for a awhile as work came in away from the shop.
