Dewalt GRC ?

Looks like it's time for my 788 to be rebuilt. Dewalt advertizes a guaranteed repair cost of $259. no matter what it takes. My saw is a type 1 and it has a ton of hours on it.Switch is bad, bellows blown, makes a ton of noise and the worst it fluctuates on speed no matter what i have it set for. Motor alone costs over $200 and the circuit board is $80. Has anyone ever used the GRC ? Thanks all

If I had known of this rebuild service I might still have a DeWalt. Mine literally fell apart after 20 months so I fixed it with locktite, sold it for $175 and bought a Hegner ....never looked back, until now. DeWalt is easy to use and cuts well but is not durable in my experience. I read a lot of problem threads about this saw and yet folks keep buying them. They do cut well, if adjusted, and are smooth running but just not durable. I know some folks have had them a long time with few problems, but the newer ones are the ones with issues I guess.

When I had my DeWalt Type 1 rebuilt I took it to my nearest Black and Decker authorized dealer. When you give it to them they issue you a claim ticket. You can go online (the web address is on the ticket) and find out when your saw is done and the cost. Overall, the service was good (it took about 2 weeks) and the price was great. In cut 7 days a week (I'm retired) and my saw will last about 4 to 6 years before its time for a rebuild. I hear about all the problems some have with the saw, but I guess I have lucked out so far. The DeWalt is a good saw and worth keeping up.

One of my friends has had his DeWalt about 7 years and is on his 5th motor. He finally replaced the 3 amp fuse with a much smaller one and now he occasionally blows a fuse but the motor is lasting longer than his others did. I wonder if it is only the fret work users that have good luck with DeWalt? This friend , like me, does not do any fret work at all. He does a lot of compound cutting which may be too hard for the DeWalt.

Myself cut loads of 3/4" plywood and some with mica on them.I know thats tough cutting but what other choice do i have.I'm fast and furious wide open on the dewalt but it won't hold up.I've way to many things to cut in a day and if i can't cut wide open i feeli'm wasteing lots of time.I enjoy produceing quality pieces immensley.I'm not happy about the tiny pencil lead sized pivot points in any of the scroll saw i've used.Too small and they are like a knife against each other and wear out too quickly.I really love the dw788 but it needs refineing.
