Travis
I'm curious where you do your scrolling? With winter storms rolling in all over, do you work in a heated shop? Do you work in a spare bedroom? I have the majority of my tools in the unheated garage, but my scroll saw is in a spare bedroom in our basement. I find it more comfortable in general. Especially during the cold winter months. It would be a looooong winter if I couldn't make a little sawdust. So....where is your saw? AirNationalGuardMom
My saw is in the basement. Warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Linda
Handi
Mine is on my kitchen Table along with my Laptop. Well considering the location of the table, it's not really in the Kitchen and it's not in the Dining Room either, so it must be living room table. Either way, i got just enought room to eat my Food and have my plate and still have room to roll my mouse around and then swing on over to the scroll saw... So Life is good here... i would take a picture of my Mess, but the Ole Lady would jump my arse in doing so rofl.

LOL...Handi! ...it doesn't make near the mess as most people think it does...i keep a shop vac handy to clean up after each use. Yah, that's the great thing about the scroll saw. Not much mess, and not very loud. So it doesn't annoy others, or wake sleeping babies.
Clayton717
mine is in my shed/shop. Its only heated when I know I'm going to be out there working.
Gray
i have a garage heater. its small, so it takes about an hour to get it warmed up. but it works pretty good for me.
Fran
My saw and tools are in a garage/shop/storage area. Cold in winter, hot in summer. Have a kerosene heater which takes the chill off. Fran
The MediaBoy
In what used to be the garage. But there hasn't been a car in there for over 10 years. The table saw, bandsaw, drill press, router table, planer, dust collector, 2 scroll saws, an assembly table, and 2 work benches take up a bit of space. It's usually a little chilly out there this time of year [being in Central Florida I didn't dare say "cold"], and of course it's sweltering hot during the summers. jarruda144
I also have a shed that I do my work in and when I know I'm going out I let it pre heat with a small heater for a while.

I'm with ya! We just moved our computers to the basement/family room, so now we spend a lot more time there as a family. I keep my saw in the next room. I really like that because I can play with the saw, but not feel so disconnected from the family.
Cashmere Scroller
When I built my car hole I decided to put an 8 foot by 16 foot room in the back of it for my wood working. The problem I ran into is that, well, I either need to get a shorter truck or add on to the front of the car hole. When I decided to build the thing I made a deal with my wife. I would stay out of HER yard and HER flowers and she would stay out of MY car hole. Yea right. Now I trip over the mower and weed eater and other assorted yard implements from HER yard. Other than the minor inconvenience of that it has worked out well. It is heated but doesn't have air con. That's what fans are for anyway. Ron C. My wife figured out pretty quick she wouldn't be able to park the car in the garage...LOL. As far as having the saw in the house, its OK until we need that room. Then it's out in the cold garage for me. I always thought it would be fun to have a little sunroom/workshop in the back of the garage. I like the light and still enjoy the back yard. jowshu
Saw, table saw, compressor, work benches etc. are all out in the garage along with a lot of other stuff that my wife has for HER yard (your not alone Ron!!). After working in the frigid cold last year and staring at an unused furnace in the garage I had someone come in and get it working (hadn't used it in the 6+ years we've lived here). $500 later I can turn the heat on and have a nice warm garage, and my wife thought scrolling was an "inexpensive" hobby Don

Its the toys that you "need" that gets expensive. I'd love to get a garage heater. I was sanding wood today and it was 6 degrees. You'd be surprised how quickly that gets old when you're sanding with numb fingers and extention cords that don't bend. Maybe in a few years, I'll insulate the garage and have a gas line run for a heater.
Christina
My saw is smack dab in the middle of my living room...........in front of the air conditioner. I bought an old kitchen table and it's my work bench. I have one of those huge barn/shed buildings but it's too dang hot in the summer and too dang cold in the winter...............and too dang big to warm or cool properly! So....I work in the living room. I like it there too since my computer is there..........stereo, tv...........dogs, bird, rats.......phone lololol. I can only sit for so long too.......bad back and hips.........so I can break freqently and lay down on the couch when I need to. It's the perfect place roflmbo. Nooooo it doesn't make much of a mess..........mmmm hmmmm, yeah right! I have two shop vacs and still there is sawdust (and bird seed) everywhere. And yes I use them! One is hooked up to my saw and the other is next to it. Christina
scrollerstan
I have a small room I carved out of the wife's laundry room (was 6' 6" x 14'). She went away for a weekend and I added a wall and door to into the garage. It is about 6'6" x 6'. If I need more room to scroll I move the car out of the garage and move it there. I am planning to build a small workshop in the future. Probally will be too small only 10' x 12' but will be a good start.

KtownScroller
My saw is in the shed. In the winter I use a kerosene heater to keep warm and in the summer I take the scroll saw outside. It makes a great meeting place for the neighbors! I always keep a few extra chairs handy for those who like to stay awhile.

That sounds really neat, though. I could just imagine having the saw under a shade tree, sipping a lemonade, and making a bit of sawdust. Sounds like the good life to me.
