Gary Unruh
How can I transfer a b&W pattern (jpg) to the wood?
koehler788
I usually make a copy of my pattern and apply it directly to the wood with repositionable spray adhesive. (spray the pattern - let it tack up - and apply ). If left on too long - just use mineral spirits to loosen.

Uncle Ricky
I use carbon paper and put my black and white pattern over it and trace it out, I know it's an old way of doing it. lol
Gary Unruh
What is repositionable spray adhesive and where do you get it? Brand name?
Gary Unruh
Can you just use computer printer paper to make a patern?
Scrappy Scroller
Hi Gary You print the pattern and then use the adhesive to glue it to the wood, I think 3M do it along with a few other brand names. Gary
don in brooklin on
I cover my wood completely with painters tape. Blue or Green. Spray the back of the pattern with glue or with a glue stick. Apply to the taped side and the tape is easy to remove. If hard wood, I cover the back with clear shipping tape. Don
koehler788
Don, That is a good idea, Shipping Tape also acts as lubricant for the blade ( so I am Told )
wombatie
I also use blue painters tape but if I know that it will take me a while to cut I spray both the pattern and the side the painters tape is on and it will stay there until I am finished and pull the painters tape off. trailfndr
I cover the wood surface with white contact paper, and then apply the paper pattern using the spray adhesive. This elliminates any cleanup of the wood, as the contact paper peels right off easily. I also cover with Clear packing tape, and it does make a difference in the amount of cutting I get from a blade. Printer paper works very well. Its all I have used, I spray the adhesive to the back of the pattern, position it on the contact paper, and then tape it before cutting. MUCH easier to follow the printed lines vs the traced ones, and accuracy is greatly improved. On larger Intarsia patterns, I make multiple copies (usually 4 or 5 will work) and then cut out each individual piece, and apply them to the wood. makes a big difference in fitting parts together.
