Clozy
Greetings from South Africa to all fellow scrollers out there, I have a problem and need some advice, I bought a new jet jss16 in January of this year well the machine had not clocked more then 30 hours working over a period of four months, then in early June the tension bolt thread stripped, and a couple of other things that were faulty I notified the importer/dealer who is from another city here, they collected the saw and took it back to their store, they then told it was that the tension bolt was over thghtened, (Wow I never knew my fingers were that strong) anyway they replaced the machine which I received three weeks ago, and low and behold the first time I got a chance to do some scrolling again cutting a cross in 6mm ply the tension bolt again stripped and this was in no way over tightened, well I again contacted the dealer, and have been told they will supply me with a new tension bolt at no cost to me (big deal) I wanted a refund but am being given the run around in that regard Now the advice I am asking is can the tension bolt be modified it is rather simple in design and is I think 6mm in diameter with a 5mm thread. I bought the Jet as it is I thought Swiss made, and on receiving the replacement saw I read on the carton MADE IN CHINA......WE do not have the choice of saws you guys overseas have Thanking you for any advice you guys out there can offer Les. Jim Finn
I came across a Jet 16" scroll saw and paid $15 US for it. It is a 1988 model and works great. I cannot find any parts for it because Jet no longer makes scroll saws...that I know of. The blade tensioning bolt on my Jet is at the rear and is about 7 inches long. I replaced mine by just buying a threaded rod and drilling a hole through it and installing a quick release Handel that I made from some 1/2" square tubing. OutoftheWoodwork
Les, keep contacting the manufacturer.. when I had my Delta, the little square holding washers bent on me, and the screw striped on mine as well, to where my tightening wrench was useless. And this was after my warranty, if I remember correctly. Keep calling back till you get a rep that's understanding to your dilemma. If you don't get a customer rep that's willing to help you, ask for a supervisor, and put on your dueling gloves if you have to. I've only had to do that on a rarity.... maybe because I'm a female. Hey... that's an idea. If you're married, have a girlfriend, etc., have them call and put on the charm. Sometimes, being a female in a field that is usually male-dominated, (tools) gets a better reception. I know it sounds crappy, and shouldn't matter, but hey; when it comes to getting a car looked at, you're better off having a guy to take it in; (referring to (I think the program is) "Lookout" where the women take in their cars to mechanics to see what will happen) Anyway, hope that helps. Clozy
Thanks to all you folks for the advice to my problem with the tension bolt, the supplier sent a replacement bolt at no cost to me, well I had a look at the new part and saw that is is bound to end up doing the same thing by stripping the thread again. thread on the bolt is loose on the nut, no wonder it has stripped twice, and is bound to strip again. I took the advice and I went the do it myself route and made the bolt from threaded HT steel ground the nut to fit, and it is now working like a dream. I am going to notify the company (Jet) that I think that their tension bolt is poorly made, and that they need to improve the quality control of the product, Thanks again to all. Les. heppnerguy
some times all you get is "customer no service". One of the reasons I quite using my Ryobi scroll saw was for the same reason. Parts are cheap and easy to get, just tired of having to replace them every 4 months. I agree, buy a better grade threaded rod
