edward
I stacked two 1/4" oak ply together to cut out a train portrait, got 1/2 way done in the cutting and felt something different while cutting, just sounded hollow, check it out and a 1/4" gap in it.Kinda think it is ruined, so I will save some sawdust and mix some glue with it and see if it works. The wood seemed solid when I checked it out before I started. Has anyone else ran into this problem. edward lawson56
kardar2
Yep you are using cheap plywood from the big box store if you count the layers in different plywood you will see the difference. Don't buy birch plywood from the big box store either. amazingkevin
MrsN
It might be salvageable. As hard as it is try finishing the piece.
sullyscroller
Edward , been there done that. It's called a void . The 1/4" oak and birch ply at lowes and home depot is not real ply any more ,it's 2 ultra thin veneers with junk inbetween. I now use a ply called Sureply from lowes and have great finished fretwork with it. It's basicaly 1/4" underlayment . has x's for nailing on one side but the other side is really nice. It cuts really nice and tales a finish well. A 4x8 sheet runs about $20. Hope this helps. sully
