Hello from Stanton Nebraska!

I have been scrolling for years but just found this wonderful forum.

I am a CNC machinist during the day and find working on the scroll saw a wonderful way to chill out after a rough day at work. I am looking forward to seeing what everyone else is doing and learning from people that know so much more than me about scroll saw work.

Show us what you know about cnc's were very interested in a machine that replaces us,lol :)

I am a machinist making parts for industries such as the steel, medical and food industries. I work with steel, plastics, brass and aluminum at work. But wood is my true passion.

I have software that can take a regular picture and make a 3D solid out of it. Then I plan on making a one of a kind lighted picture engraved in Lexan (kind of like Plexiglas) out of it for my customers. I have one almost finished for my son’s wedding and would be glad to post a picture of it when it is finished if you would be interested in seeing it.

As far as replacing the art and talent of hand crafted scroll saw projects I don’t believe that CNC machines will ever be able to do it. I have worked with end mills as small as .005 inch in aluminum and steel and it just takes too long and breaks too many end mills to be truly productive. I can put so much more detail in my fret work with my scroll saw with a fine blade and it is much more gratifying.

Scroll on my friend you cannot be replaced by a machine.

Welcome to a fellow Nebraskan, keep scrolling, and keep posting.  Your work is great.  My talent is limited but my enjoyment is from scrolling is enormous.  My work is best characterized as poor quality folk art by an old man with bad eyes and shakey hands; best seen at a distance in a poorly lit room.  Most people I know have not seen quality scroll art so my work is acceptable to them and children are the least critical and usually get the most joy out of things I do.
