Hi Vector01 It is backed with leather, I buy old leather just for my Portraits Ithink it gives a bit more texture than just using a black backer.. I use to design props for Theatre/TV/Films and I would often go to 2nd hand shops looking for leather coats to cut up. $5 could get you some really good leather for projects.
