britetomro
I have only been a member for about a month. I notice messages from other members identifying various links which they have used to complete certain tasks. Would it be possible to have another field of resources where someone could go to instead of having to find the message posted by another member? Just a thought. Thanks, Ron
Travis
Hrmmm....I'm not sure if I'm following. Could you give me an example?
britetomro
An example would be different URL's which others have found. I noticed one today relating to resizing of patterns. Another would be the facebook link. Many times when you notice a link you may not have the time to use or apply the information and sometimes it can be difficult to go back and find where the link was posted in a comment. Just thought a single location where these links could be filed would be useful for many. Just a thought.

britetomro
Thats it guys, a links page. For some reason the simple use of the word had escaped me. I believe this would be a useful service for many vs trying to remember where someone had posted a link on a previous posting. Thanks, Ron
Travis
Ahhh....goch-cha. You're right, our Facebook page does need to be much more visible. Right now it is only in my signature. I'll put a link on our front page next week. As far as other links. Well, that's the tricky thing about online communities. Everything is constantly evolving and it would be a fulltime job indexing the links. With that said, we do have a few tools at our disposal. I'll start with the easiest. Bookmarking is something every web browser offers. I bookmark everything (almost to a fault). In Internet Explorer go to Favorites>Add To Favorites. This way if there is a URL that you want to remember, it will always be there for you. Another option is using our Search function in the upper right corner of the forum. That will certainly hone in on what you were looking for. It works pretty well, but sometimes you have to wade through alot of irrelavent stuff to get what you're looking for. One cool feature of this forum, is that you have your own personal bookmarks available. If you're reading a forum, at the bottom of the screen in the tan box, you'll see a Bookmark Topic. If it is a thread you're interested in revisiting in the future, click this button to remember the thread. You can find your bookmarked topics in your User Control Panel (top left of the forum in the tan box). On the first page (Overview tab), you'll see a link that says Manage Bookmarks. This is where all of your bookmarked topics reside. Lastly, we have a Wiki. This takes a bit more effort. This is an information resource for all things scroll saw related. So if you're interested in compound cutting, and you found a cool thread that has a great demonstration of compound cutting, you can add a link to it in the Compound Cutting wiki article. This is what the wiki is designed to do; pull together all of the great info available to scrollers. The wiki can be edited by anybody, so don't feel like an admin has to add it. If you think it belongs, add it. It is only with the help of the entire community that the wiki becomes powerful. With that said, if there's something specific everybody is looking for, I'd be happy to figure out a solution.
shadylady0447
Travis, I think what Ron would like to see is a section on the Board Index that says "Resources" with links to particular things like "How to make a frame" see video here: http://www.clubframeco.com/sm_video_finishing.html or something along that line. Thanks for pointing out the bookmarks, I was not aware of them and will make use of that feature in the future. Probably Ron and others don't know about it either and that is why the question about a resource section.
britetomro
You are right Sue. Travis, you provided a great deal of insight on a number of additional features which I have not been using. Thanks for the information and I am sure that others will find your notes useful as well.
