Overfifty Posted December 9, 2013 Report Posted December 9, 2013 I bought a low end saw on a whim before I retired a year ago. Glad I did 'cause I think I found my niche. Since then I've bought a De Walt and haven't looked back. Not very good at it but can only improve. Although practitioner's here in the Okanagan are a rarity I've found the general comradery, and willingness to share experiences and advice on this site and Steve's absolutely wonderful. Thank you all. amazingkevin and Phantom Scroller 2 Quote
heppnerguy Posted December 9, 2013 Report Posted December 9, 2013 glad you found us and I am happy that you started doing this when you retired because that is exactly what I did and i enjoy it more than anything else I have ever done. I also have a de Walt and i love my saw very much. If you have any questions about anything to do with scrolling, just post it and you will see how willing everyone here is to help. There is a lot of talent here and everyone is understanding and helpful. Take a look through all the free patterns and grab as many as you like and start making sawdust. there is also another great scroll saw pattern sight where you can get many more free patterns, It is called scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com Be sure and explore around here and look at all the nooks and crannies because, believe me, you will not regret it. the secret here is to log on often and start reading the posts that otheres have made and make comments on what you read, like others do and before you know it, you will start to know the people on here and they will get to know you and you will discover that you too are a part of this world wide scroller family Dick heppnerguy Quote
LarryEA Posted December 10, 2013 Report Posted December 10, 2013 OK, young man, tell me your nook. I'm not sure what mine is. I'm also a practitioner working to become a specialist. I enjoy scrolling and am becoming an expert at hiding my mistakes. Sometimes I like the results better than the original, the out-of-place antler on the deer. I break rules like using a blade until it will not cut, keeping dull ones just-in-case. And yes, this is a nice place to commune, learn, and we all can teach something. There are friends here for everyone. You have a good saw to work with... Larry amazingkevin 1 Quote
Ron Johnson Posted December 10, 2013 Report Posted December 10, 2013 Glad you found your niche. Won't be long before you'll tell yourself "I should have gotten into scrolling long before this" but like anything it's never too late. All the best with the learning curve. Quote
browders Posted December 10, 2013 Report Posted December 10, 2013 Welcome. Like you I live in an area without many scrollers. That's why finding this forum has been such a godsend. The others on here are truly artists who are happy to share their secrets. Enjoy. Quote
