Puzzle Blades

Last week I purchased Puzzle blades off Mike, now I have a problem, maybe someone can help. I started a puzzle project from Steve Goods Patterns, which I already messed up , nowthe problem is when I cut the blade wonders off the line, blade is straight and table is level the speed I used is #4 on my 788, even lowered the speed and it does the same thing, and I'am not really forceing the blade. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Edward

The thinner the blade, the more squirrely it gets to control. This is especially true if you're using solid wood, as the blade gets caught in the grain. It will take a lot to get use to. I think it works best when you're making puzzles freehand since you can "go with the flow" when making the keys and locks. I'd either practice using old greeting cards (use Christmas cards, that way you have ready-made gifts this holiday season) or just use his pattern as a general guideline, not worrying about if you're on the line or not. You can also try using a thicker blade. My go-to blade is the #3 and I have pretty good control with it. The puzzle will fit a bit looser, but I don't think that's a bad thing.

Hi Edward,

Sue is right about the tension. Also good speed is better than low speed. With low speed you have a tendency to push too hard into the blade and you will loose control over the blade. Let the blade do the cutting.

Check this tutorial from Carter Johnson, he uses the Puzzle blades.
