Fay Prozora
I'm so mad as it konked out. I was going to oil it and then decided to check that little brush that is in the motor and it is practically none exhistant. It is gone! So I will have to get it repaired and hopefully it will work after that. I was so sure Mr. Fox would last longer than I had him. About 6 months or so. I bought him last Summer and sure did enjoy using him. Maybe this is a good excuse to get Big Yellow. In the mean time I will look around for a place in Sequim to see where I can take him to be fixed. DANG! Scrolling on hold now.... Shoot $#%%#^*^%W@#@@ So much for cuss words.... Hoe you all are doing fine. I just had 12 cuts left to do on my fret work wood pecker I was working on too.... Have a great day Fay
Gary Beasley
If you can get graphite brushes even oversized you can easily shave them to size with a knife or a file and get the motor running again. Home Depot may have something, I've even found replacement brushes for Dremels at Wal Mart.
Multifasited
If every thing simple fails, take what left of you brushes to a motor shop ,they may have a replacement . Jim Finn
Fay Prozora
Thanks all,, I'm going to contact the Shop Fox dealer and see what they say. I don't want to go all the way to Bremerton where their repair shop is so that is out so hopefully I can get it fixed here some where... Fay Prozora
Well dang, I can't find the Shop Fox information that I had so I'm going to get a DeWalt 788 when I have enough money. Shoot I just spent a couple hundred on other things, but I get paid in a couple of week and I have a birthday coming so it will be my B-day present from me to me. So between now and then I'll be looking for better prices on them. I think it will be a better saw than the Shop Fox....Have a great day y-alls... Sparkey
Sorry to hear about your saw. I just moved up from a Ryobi to a 788 and there is no comparison. You will love the 788. amazingkevin

Fay Prozora
Great idea on the wood burning. I can maybe work more on the red tail hawk I did. Will try to apply for the home depot card and hopefully be able to get Big Yellow. I did look at the features and I do like the easy blade change. Mr. Fox was hard to change the blades on him because I had to tilt the table just enough to get my hand in there to put the lower clamp on. It's tedious when doing fret work , but I have wanted that saw for awhile and I thought sure Fox would last longer than it did. I can also clean up the shop or pack up some of my things to get it ready to take home so my shop will have more room. Wish I could get the 16" as my bench is not wide enough for the 20" but I can get a stand later on. So just a couple more weeks and maybe I will have a new scroll saw.. I hope so any ways. amazingkevin
there's always craigs list el cheapo back up saw for less than a drive for brushes and then install them.Somebody right in your town will have a delta or something that will get you thru this trouble..i have a brand new dw788 as back up i got on craigs list for 250.00 and a new dremil 1830 i just fixed after three years having the parts. always be prepared then there's the 1000 watt generator new for 150 that's quiet as a mouse .I think the scroll saws use maybe 10 watts so im good to go..If you look on craigs list type in scroll saw as two words or else you won't find anything.Give it a shot! stu
Yes keep a eye on Craig's list bought a 788 type 1 for $125 for a back up, and sold a delta 16" for $50 Stu
Fay Prozora
I did look on craigslist and found one scroll saw but it was a Delta. It did look good but they did not have a lot of information on it and any way no way to get to where it was located. Going to go ahead with Big Yellow. I decided and I did sign up for the home depot card and apparently I can't get one for some reason. I wonder if it is because I'm a disabled senior and have to depend on my SS check every month. I always pay my bills on time. It's 1 a.m. and I'm not asleep as yet. Just a little depressed now because of my saw. At least I have my Temp- tations cookware coming tomorrow and that wasn't very much. It'll cheer me up a little bit. I found that chicken baker that I've wanted for so long. Got those on clearance and I have a couple pieces of jewelry coming this week also. My birthday is coming too and the big yellow will be my gift. I'll have Sis take me to Home Depot next month and then maybe I can get one right from the store. If not then I'll order it. Well going to try to get some shut eye. Have a great morning I should say...... Fay
Kepy
You might check on Amazon as they had a pretty good deal also.
heppnerguy
if you search on line, you should be able to find a 788 with free shipping at a good discount. That is how I got mine and I was able to get it for about 1/2 of what the regular price was. Good Luck, you can also go on and order your brushes and you could put them in yourself. Not that hard. If you were able to look at them, you are able to replace them too. But if you can afford a new 788 it sounds like you probably would be doing that anyway, then go for it. Fay Prozora
Thank you all for your replies. I will look into getting some brushes for my saw and then in the mean time get Big Yellow later. Will keep an eye on places that sell it. Not too long ago, I think it was during the holidays, they had the 788 on sale on Amazon for under $400. Now they are $499.00. Should have gotten that saw! But then I did not know the fox would go bonkers on me. So I'll be looking around. Oh yes I did see a nice Craftsman saw at Sears for $89.00 Was going to get it but decided I will wait for a good deal on Big Yellow.... Gary Beasley
Get a stand when you do order a Dewalt, it is so nice having it and get casters for it too. Makes it easy to push out of the way for cleaning. And your bench space can be used for better things like assembly and finishing.
Fay Prozora
I was just thinking of getting one with the stand. My bench is not wide enough for a 20" saw. We went to several places in town to look for the brush to put in the thing but none to be had. One of the clerks at Home Depot told me there is a repair shop in Port Angeles and we did not find it. I wanted to talk to them about the cost and such and see if it would be cost effective to fix my saw. I could have it as a back up if it could. Well my birthday is coming up so the Big Yellow will be my gift.... Will be looking for some good deals on it I tried to apply for a Home Depot credit card but was denied as my income is too low. I talked to them today when we were there. Well I'm a disable senior so I can't do any thing about that. Well shipoopi! Any way, have a great night Fay

Fay Prozora
I've got good news!!!!!!!!!! I was just approved for an Amazon credit card!!!!! I can get Big Yellow!... So I added the saw, the stand and the light to my wish list until my card arrives in the mail. It should be here with in a week or two. How ever, they said I can use the card immediately so I guess I'm definitely getting the new saw for my birthday!!!! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I have information on brushes. Some one on the other forum sent a link to some and I may go ahead and order a set and use the fox for a back up saw. Any way I will have up to 6 months to pay for the saw and I can pay for it in about 2 or 3 months. Looking forward to the Big Yellow! Yippeeee!! ironman123
Congratulations Fay on your getting your Amazon card. I would love to get a 788 also but I got too many irons in the fire right now. Well maybe by this time next month you will have a scroll saw for each hand. The fox in one and old yeller in the other. Fay Prozora
Well they shot Old Yeller didn't t hey???? So he better be good to me! I think the moto saw from Dremel will get jealous for sure... I posted on the other forums that the fox gave me the middle blade and there is nothing like getting flipped off by one of my tools. He's been a good saw but the moto can only do little bitty projects so at least I can make little ornaments and such on that saw. Tomorrow planning to clean the shop and get it organized and make room for the Big Yellow saw. Have a great night Fay Any one know how do you tell if it is a type 1 or type 2? Will have to look for more information on this... good night Fay
Lucky2
Fay, if it is a new saw it will be type 2, the original saws were type one and they've not been sold for years. Len
Fay Prozora
Thank you. I watched some you tubes on this saw and I like the idea of every thing being at the front of the saw and no need to reach way to the back of the saw to adjust the tension. Later I do plan to get a foot switch. I have been hearing about the switch problems so a foot switch should solve the problem. Looking forward to getting back on a saw. I still plan to get the fox fixed so I would have a back up incase some thing happens to the Yellow. ( whether he gets shot or not ) LOL!
