corner niche

Good day Steve

Very beautiful corner niche. Well done. I have repeated several projects that people have asked one of. I don't mind being most of the items I have repeated I have enjoyed doing and besides it gave me the opportunity to maybe tweak a little from the original and improve upon any errors I may have made the first time.

NIce niche. It's perfect for the figurine.

I stack cut but rarely do repeats. I do have one that I will repeat as a special request for my brother. Of course, every year a customer orders 50 identical ornaments. She is so sweet  I can't say no. But she gives me at least 2 months notice.

Interesting conversation.

I really enjoy stack cutting and don't mind doing repeats of a project that a lot of people admire.

Anyway, That is a very beautiful corner niche and in regard to your reply to Ron, you did not leave much room for improvement on that project!
It is extremely well done.

Thanks for sharing and God Bless! Spirithorse

As for myself, I love doing something a second, third or more times because that says to me, that others are admireing my work, which makes it all good for me. And besides, once some one has something of mine in their home that means more people will get to know about me and more will be possible customers and that is what pays for my supplies so that I can continue to make sawdust and nothave to worry about my budget.

That is a really nice corner piece. It is perfect for the display statue you have in it. Is this a pattern that you can share or even willing to share ? You did na great job on it , Thanks for sharing it

I do not like repeat requests. I run scared that the second will not live up to the first.

BUT, I have repeated many patterns because I  liked the pattern and I really enjoyed

cutting them for myself. This way I am not under pressure to satisfy a 'customer'.

Once cut, then I welcome a 'customer'.

i finished this project a couple of years ago and alot of my friends are still asking for one for themselves. The problem with this is i dont like to repeat myself and if i do the repeats are never exactly the same. Anyone else have this problem?

Absolutely. IMHO woodworking is a lot more fun if each project is full of new challenges.  I like making lamps. Here are a few examples.

post-18045-0-09405300-1392239045_thumb.jpgpost-18045-0-60167800-1392239063_thumb.jpgpost-18045-0-21414100-1392239076_thumb.jpgpost-18045-0-62555900-1392239102_thumb.jpg

You can do the same sort of thing with the corner units. Just change the style to fullfill the specific need or to match the style of the room, utilize the stock on hand or to get experience with a new skill. Each of these lamps has it's own 'story'. I like fly fishing and saw a picture of a lamp like this in some high end magazine and made one. The carriage light was simply the need to replace existing lamps on our garage and I couldn't find anything that wasn't made in China so I made my own. If you look closely you can see I scrolled a flower out of copper on the front panel. The dovetail lamp I made was one of my first projects I got to use a dovetail template I'd purchased at Sears. The mission style lamp was a chance to make a lamp as well as the shade.

So when your friends ask you to make a corner unit say that's fine but you want design control. So have fun and amaze you friends.

I guess what it all boils down to is whether you'll duplicate your piece or not is if your in it for the money side line or otherwise or is it a hobby, for me its a hobby and the pieces I have at home are not for sale so people don't ask but I do make some pieces for sale to recoup my expenses those I may duplicate but it better be worth my while or I won't do it. Here in Mexico people don't see this scroll saw art so they are quite eager to snatch up what ever they can find. I have sold out on several markets in the city so my pieces do sell.
