a customer asked me if i could make a beehive birdhouse and without thinking i said sure. i thought it would be easy, anything but because the light pine i was using kept splitting on me. i finally got it put together however with it going outside im not sure if i should protect it with a varnish and if i do will the stink ward off any birds? does anyone know what i should do?

Very neat and unique.

Yes, but ONLY on the outside--- leave the inside natural.

The bird society suggest no inside finish and leave a little rough.

Spar(MARINE--- BEST QUALITY) will give it decent life. Especially if every few years ir gets sanded and then revarnished with it again.
