backing?

i found a art shop herein houston that had some velvet black poster like board that i really like as a backing. there out and i cant get anymore. its blacker and better than just black poster board. do any of you guys have a www. site that carries anything like this?  about the same size as poster board and was $2 a sheet.

Hi Gator. I started working with felt quite a while ago. Even the best quality felt us reasonably priced if you shop around, and it makes an interesting difference to standard backing. (Particularly on portraits). I simply adhere it to the backing board with decent PVA glue (just on the areas that the portrait top will touch) and then repeat with the portrait top board when the backer is dry. You can use different colours to create interesting effects depending on your subject piece.

Or maybe you can find a place like the Joann fabric store and get some thing there or get some black velvet fabric and adhere it to the backer board. There must be some picture framing places around that would have some thing for a backer. Good luck.. Fay

Maybe I've misunderstood, but if your local store doesn't carry it any longer, won't they tell you who their supplier was so you can contract them directly?

I inquired at a local fabric store in our little town and she found me a nice large piece, ironed it for me and charged my only $3. I was really happy with that.

Don't know if there is a Blicks art supply store near you, they carry a real nice velvet poster board. That's not what they call it. It has some fancy name. It measures 12" by 24" I think and cost about $8.00 They may even have a Web site to order from. Hope this helps.
