Hi I'm Chris from the UK.(Cumbria) Another grumpy here....Retired last year and with the presentation money bought an Excalibur ex 21 Limited Edition scroll saw. Just making a lot of sawdust at the moment but slowly getting the hang of it. Its a great saw and it looks great too in its black and gold colours (John Player Special F1 colours) well

I remember the cigarettes anyway. I also have a treadle fretsaw c 1885 called "Rival" which was made in the USA by the Seneca Falls Manufacturing Co NY. If anyones

interested I'll post some pics when I can. I dont think its very usable though not with any degree of accuracy anyway. Perhaps I will sell it to fund some decent wood.

Welcome to the Village Chris. Glad you joined.

We are picture deprived here so we are always

ready for a photo. Especially anything scrollsaw related.

Please post a pic of your fretsaw and results of your sawdust.

What is the cigarette relationship in this. I couldn't grasp that.

Oh yes...grumpy's get picked on.

Chris you fit right in here ,Glad to have you friend. You just try and get away from the scroll saw now that you've been bitten. The only cure for that is keep scrolling.now that you have time on your hands it won't be long before we'll be learning tricks from you.Happy days are here for you to scroll your hearts content.Once you try a difficult project all the rest is down hill from there.Soon you'll be doing and wowing your friend with.. .,and this one has 500 holes in it.It really doesn't take that long.don't worry about following the pattern lines to the tee  that only slows you down .No big deal if you stray off the line .Only you know where the happy accident is and believe me even though you know you did ,try and find it when it;'s all said and done. But on portraits the eyes need to be right on the money so take your time on them. thanks for joining and get a foot pedal on off switch ,you'll be glad you did! Any step you can save scrolling is a plus. raise the backm of you saw up 10 inches to see what your doing easyer too!WELCOME FRIEND :)

Hi Chris, welcome to the Village. I'm Roy from Scotland. You'll find lots of little back streets and alley ways to explore here, it's bigger than you think, and I can only reiterate what Kevin says, he is a master at hitting the nail right on the head.

Incidentally, I well remember the JPS F1 team, those were the days. I also remember many delightful visits to your part of the country. So come in, relax and enjoy your EX.

Thanks guys for your welcoming comments. Heres a pic of my 1885 fretsaw and also a pic of the JPS F1 Lotus especially for you Larry.

Kevin....Are you sure about the 10 inch rise at the back of the saw???? At present my saw is not in use because I'm constructing a stand

from a log saw horse which is basically 3 XXX in line with a board bolted to the 6 tops. For a ten inch rise I would have to cut the

front tops quite a bit shorter. Perhaps you would clarify....Many Thanks Chris

Hi Chris,

What an interesting old saw. I, personally, have never seen anything even close to one like that saw. Glad you posted a picture of it for us. First of all, I wish to welcome you to The Village. There are as many skill levels here as there are people. I want to encourage to to explore around this sight and to participate by reading and posting in the forum. Taht way you will get to know us here and we will have th privilage of getting to know you too. we are a very friendly bunch of people and we live in almost every corner of the planet Earth, If it has any corners. Everyone has ideas of there own, from the best blades to use, the best saw on the market, the best way to attach a pattern to wood and what angle is best for you to mount your saw.  Everyone has something to offer others, as I am sure you also have, so jump in and get your feet wet by coming back here often so we all can get to know you better.

HI, I have just joined, im from Lancashire, great hobby,

Hey Bazzer. Welcome to the village. I know Lancs quite well (especially along the canal network). I'd advise a quick 'copy & paste' of your last intro post, and place it as a new one in the 'Introductions' area of the forum. That way more people will catch you and say hello. If you have any questions, just ask and watch everyone jump in to help.

Kindest Regards,

Nick.
