dansnow
Before I start, Moderators, if this is inappropriate or in the wrong place, please feel free to move or delete. That said, I found out something very strange concerning Dewalt and the 788 today. According to their customer service, they have no stock anywhere, and don't plane to have any to ship for almost 5 weeks! I found this out because I wanted to buy one for my son as a thank you for his hard work in helping us with our little wooden toy and gift business we're trying to get started. I just found it rather unbelievable that a company like DeWalt would put themselves in a position where their most popular scroll saw is out of stock for close to 2 months! amazingkevin
Sparkey
Amazon has them. The price went up quite a bit but they have them. amazingkevin

dansnow
Price is up almost $200 on Amazon, and the first few I clicked on all said shipping wouldn't be until late April, early May. Hell for that money I'd just as sooon get another Excaliber!!
tvman44
Get a Excaliber!
dansnow
The only problem with that is I had enough money for the 21" DeWalt. That amount would only get me a 16" Excaliber. That and my son really wants the DeWalt. I've been told by where I had placed an order for the DeWalt that if I'm willing to wait I can get it for the sale price they had when one finally comes in. Otherwise, if the funds were available I'd dump the 788 for the Excaliber in a heartbeat and never look back.

I have no idea what is going on but if you really want the DW788 you can go to this website it says out of stock and will ship on 04/15/14 and it appears you can still order at the price of $497.99 with free shipping but without stand or light. I did not dig into Amazon but they show a price of $626.76 and do not indicate it is out of stock even though some vendors do indicate out or stock. http://www.factoryauthorizedoutlet.com/dewalt-heavy-duty-20-variable-speed-scroll-saw?gclid=CJ2T0O3hv70CFRQV7AodvA8AlQ
dansnow
According to emails I received from DeWalt Customer Support, there is no recall, they are just completely out of stock and won't have any to ship until "late April". The store I went to, which shall remain nameless, has told me that when they come in, I will get the saw, stand and light for the sale price of $499.
Phantom Scroller
Perhaps there holding them back to put the price up. Supply and demand I think is what they call it, yea right.

browders
I just received my Grizzly Tools sale catalog. They are advertising a DeWalt DW788 for $439.00 plus shipping.
dansnow
Fantastic news, called them up and they actually had them in stock. Ordered it with the stand and light for the same price as the other place was offering but with the out of stock story. Should have it by middle of next week. I guess I need to stop trying to buy b ig ticket items from my local Woodcraft store since this is twice I've had this issue with them! Fay Prozora
Glad you found one for your son. He'll love it as I love mine. Once in a while when I go to order some thing say like Amazon they will say how many are in stock and then more coming. I've seen this happen a lot lately but not just with scroll saws but other items not related to tools. Makes me wonder some times. Have a great day Fay
LarryEA
Considering all from my point of view, $500 is a little high but not a rip off.
dansnow
In my case the $500 included the stand and work light, an $100 retail value.
