Ron Johnson
I have 24 blade clamp set screws (new) for the Excalibur scroll saws (fine thread). General Int. sent me fine thread instead course thread. So anyone that has an Excalibur and would like or need a set just forward me your address and I will mail them out to you. No Charge. If your saw is fairly new Roly your set screws would have a fine thread. Phantom Scroller

Ron Johnson
Why so many ,are they that big a problem on a ex. Good day Carl The new Excalibur saws redesigned their blade clamps with fine threaded set screws and knobs. Mine being an older model uses a course thread and Seyco and General Int. only stock the fine thread. I've had a hard time finding a supplier but managed to find one located in Tennessee. Ordered another two dozen and should have them this week. The set screws and knobs are the only items that wear and occasionally need replacing along with the motor brushes. I like carrying extra parts so I have them when needed.
Multifasited
Ron,It just seemed like a lot I can understand discontinued parts are (gold)and the need to have on hand ,wouldn't it convert to the new style clamps usually finer thread are stronger in thin stock,I'm really talking w/o knowing much about an EX .and I'm sure you use yours much more than I do mine .I appreciate your answering ,I really was curious !Carl

Crazy isn't it. You would think big outfits like General Int. and Seyco would have these in stock. I couldn't believe such a small item like this could be so difficult to acquire. That is why I recommend when purchasing a new Ex to purchase additional set screws and blade knobs being these are the parts that wear and will need replacing. Then you have them if the manufacturer decides to upgrade like in my case.
Multifasited
Amen ! sounds like a game of Gotsha ! They make some real money on their parts ,do thiers have swivel tips ,if not ,I understand the excessive wear issue . Makes complete sense now !thanks again ! Doug
Ron I am not in a place to check but I have a DW788 and a newer EX21. Not sure on the newer EX21 but I think the EX21 I replaced may have used the same set screw as the DW788. If so, DW788 replacement set screws could work and many good hardware stores will have a wide selection of set screws.

You would think so but where I am and surrounding areas the hardware stores stock set screws but not with a flat face. Frustrating when you have to special order something so simple and yet vital to the operation of the saw.
Multifasited
THere are many kinds of set screw ,lockers, binder and diggers ,not there real names but what they are used for ,You need a perfectly flat one ,a binder if you will . Just so ,people realize there are more than one type .
Doug
Ron Just checked and for whatever it is worth a DW788 purchased in February 2011, a green EX 21 purchased in May of 2012 and a black replacement EX 21 received in November 2013 all have interchangeable thumb screws and set screws. Not sure whether thin or coarse threads but they look like coarse to me. I would add to your suggestion about purchasing extra thumbscrews and set screws to also purchase extra blade clamps, especially on the EX line. The clamp is a type of aluminum and if you strip threads it is as likely to be in the clamp as in the set screw or thumb screw. Experience, not a guess.
