Hi from New Zealand

G'day everybody, I'm Clive and I live in the South Island of New Zealand. I have been scrollsawing for about eighteen months on an entry level Ryobi 405 scroll saw. I hope on day to upgrade to an Excalibur 21 which should last me till I fall off my perch.

I am retired so I get a lot of time to practice. Most of my scroll sawing has been in making jigsaw puzzles for children which i make for an organisation to which I belong. This organisation is Santa Claus workshop, a group of about 10 retired men who make about 1000 toys a year to give away to needy children at Christmas time.

I am keen to learn as much as I can from all you other scrollers and to also try different areas of scrolling such as portraits, and fretwork pieces

Hello Clive,

Good for you for being a part of the Santa Clause woodshop. It is a great feeling to make things that will bring some joy to others, especially kids. I hope that you venture into some new scrolling projects because , at least for me, variety brings added joy. I like trying new things and discovering that I am not limited to only what I "thought" I might be something I was not sure I would be able to do. discover new things and try a lot of things. Take time and explore all the things we offer each other here on The Village from free advice on anything to free patterns to try and free tutorials on pattern making..Log on often and you soon will have a lot of new friends,  share you projects with us too

G'day Clive, welcome to the Village.  I'm Marg from across the ditch in Australia.  Congratulations on your fine work with the Santa Claus workshop.  If ever there is a certain type of pattern you require just ask and I am sure someone will come up with something for you.

Hello Clive, I'm Roy from Scotland. A big welcome to the village. You'll find just about anything you'll need or want, It's a great place to be, full of wonderful characters, some of whom you've probably met already. It's a great thing you and your friends are doing with the Santa Claus Workshop for the kids. Speaking of Santa, we have our own Special Elf right here, and his name is Kevin, well, actually, he's Amazing Kevin and he is well named, as you will find out in due course. Come on in and ENJOY YOURSELF

Rob Roy.

Welcome Clive,Bad thing about being retired is you'll have way to much to do and so little time to do it all.!Show us your perch where you do all your scrolling at. We thrive on pictures as they convey a thousand words as you know.Puzzleing thing about the village is when your puzzled about something feel free to ask and many will set you straight in a flash.Speaking of puzzles whats the most piece puzzle you have made.I've noticed these days that santa usually wears glasses ,not sure if they are safety glasses  Great feeling it must be to give of your self and time to reward those less fortuneate with custom made toys.God loves cheerful givers !Welcome again and check in offen to see what you would have missed! :)

Hi Kevin, yes, retirement is fun with so much to do. if I showed you the perch where I do all my scrolling you's all laugh. it's a little corner of the garage with my scroll saw perched on a workmate stand, a drill press and bandsaw on another. Anything else like sanding, table sawing I have to do outside when it's not raining. But what the heck, it's good fun. The biggest piece puzzle that I have done is 211 piece on 4 mm MDF. It was just a little smaller than an A3 sheet of paper and it was of an oil painting that I did. My glasses aren't safety glasses. I need them to see where the scroll saw is.... . I am thinking of getting one of those large magnifying glasses with a light i them to be able to see the pattern lines.

If I can find out how to load photos I'll post pictures of some of my work. Just don't expect anything too good....lol  :)
