BassBlaster
Hey scroll sawers. Im Dennis from Grove City, OH. Im mostly a woodturner but my wife recently came across some projects she likes that prompted us to purchase a scroll saw. Now were both learning together. Ive never really needed a scroll saw in the past but Ive always admired scroll saw work. Now Im excited to learn the ropes and log some hours at the scroll saw. Hope to learn a lot from you guys and get to a point that I can actually contrite to your great site. LarryEA
Welcome to you and your wife Dennis. I believe you both will really enjoy scroll sawing. While you are turning a bowl or a pen, she can do a portrait on the scroll saw. Larry BassBlaster
rjR
Big Hello from the west! This is quite a collection. A lot of good advice some B.S. and a lot of fun. Actually any question, someone here has a good answer for. A lot of good advice and even some ribbing. The trick of transparent packing tape to use a marker for the patterns on is a good one. It lubricates and helps hide minor errors at the same time. Make your sawstation fit you! Do projects you like and have fun! Do NOt worry about small errors-- everyone makes some! Rob Roy
Hello Dennis, I'm Roy from Scotland, glad to have you join us. I'm sure you'll enjoy it here, folks from all over the world. No questions go unanswered here. You say in your intro you want to learn as much as you can. I think the first lesson here Dennis is, maybe buy a second saw. Sharing one with the "BOSS" could lead to problems. . As Marg says, why don't you get your good lady to join us, we could do with more ladies to keep us in check, because Marg could do with some assistance to keep us under control. You'll be OK though as Marg's bark is worse than her bite. Anyway Dennis, come on in and make some sawdust and above all ENJOY yourself. Our Amazing Kevin will make sure you do. Rob Roy. BassBlaster
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Marg, Ill mention it to her. She dosnt typically get into online forums where Im a regular member to several. I love interacting with like minded people and learning from those that are experienced. Yes, we probably will buy a second saw at some point because we bought a cheap one. If scrolling is something we enjoy and Im sure it will be, a huge upgrade will be needed. The saw we bought is the new Craftsman model. Its not much but should give us an idea of what we are wanting to do. Here in a few months, we may be upgrading to a DeWalt or a GI.
