Wood Printing

Your first time or not. you did an admirable job on your wood printing.

I did 'Image Transfers' for a few years on my other wood hobbies.
Here is some of what I learned.

* Print a mirror image. Be prepared to print a second copy.
Your image transfer can only be as good as your print.
So be sure your print is of good quality.
* The bare wood must be as smooth as possible. But not necessarily flat.
rounded can work also.
Porous woods are not a good choice unless filled and prepared.
* Be patient and take your time
* Here is what I did that worked quite well.
Purchase a Matte Medium. I used GOLDEN by Golden Artist Colors
www.Goldenpaints.com
This is a 100% acrylic polymer emulsion.
Cut from the paper the image you want to transfer,
brush a thin layer of the polymer on the image to be transfered.
The ink must be damp with the polymer.
Being sure all the ink is covered. What is not covered will not transfer.
Position the paper on the wood and using a roller, roll until you press out all the polymer you can.
Let dry, even set over night.
Remove the paper, the ink has transfered. Apply a finish over top
If you do not like it, the ink is removable and can be re-applied.
You can do a search on Matte Medium Image transfer.. maybe more info.

The only image trsf picture I have available other than signs on my cabins
