rjR Posted May 21, 2014 Report Posted May 21, 2014 Here is my first effort of transferring computer print to wood. I did not clean up the background enough. Not good enough at photo programs. I am sure others can do it better. My printer may have also been not quite right, as I seldom actually use it. lawson56 and keefie 2 Quote

amazingkevin Posted May 21, 2014 Report Posted May 21, 2014 Glad to see you took time to try this. If only I can remember to use this trick someday. Very good outcome thanks for showing your work! Quote
wombatie Posted May 22, 2014 Report Posted May 22, 2014 Next time try it out of a piece of scrap first, but I think you had a great idea and gave it a shot, well done. Marg Quote

LarryEA Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 (edited) Your first time or not. you did an admirable job on your wood printing.I did 'Image Transfers' for a few years on my other wood hobbies. Here is some of what I learned. * Print a mirror image. Be prepared to print a second copy.Your image transfer can only be as good as your print. So be sure your print is of good quality.* The bare wood must be as smooth as possible. But not necessarily flat.rounded can work also. Porous woods are not a good choice unless filled and prepared.* Be patient and take your time * Here is what I did that worked quite well.Purchase a Matte Medium. I used GOLDEN by Golden Artist Colorswww.Goldenpaints.comThis is a 100% acrylic polymer emulsion.Cut from the paper the image you want to transfer, brush a thin layer of the polymer on the image to be transfered. The ink must be damp with the polymer.Being sure all the ink is covered. What is not covered will not transfer.Position the paper on the wood and using a roller, roll until you press out all the polymer you can.Let dry, even set over night. Remove the paper, the ink has transfered. Apply a finish over topIf you do not like it, the ink is removable and can be re-applied. You can do a search on Matte Medium Image transfer.. maybe more info. The only image trsf picture I have available other than signs on my cabins Edited May 24, 2014 by LarryEA Quote
LarryEA Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 Do a search on golden acrylic image transfer Quote
lawson56 Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 I agree with Roly,it gives it that aged look.Plus it is something I have never heard of before.Looks better than a rubber ink stamp. Quote
Jim Finn Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 When I was putting images like this on wood I printed out whatever I wanted on tissue paper and applied the paper and print to the wood with lacquer. (Decoupage) Like these: Quote
