MTCowpoke22 and 7 others reacted to danny for a topic
Howdy all.... Wasn't excited about showing this, but another Good Buddy thot it was worth showing. So here it is after the Cuting, Shaping, Fine sanding, and Painting. Think I will say this project was not among my favorite to do with the time. Took to long. If you have any suggestions for possible future ventures .. Please jot them down here. Thanks for Looking Danny :+}8 points -

Coat Rack
Lucky2 and 2 others reacted to MTCowpoke22 for a topic
Finally finished the coat rack. A lot of firsts for me on this one. First time steam bending, first time turning spindles, first time drawing up plans for a customer, first time learning what an umbrella holder is...... I think it turned out well. Hope the customer likes it as well as I do. All solid Russian Olive, finished with Danish Oil with a couple of coats of poly on top. The braces for the coat hooks were scrolled.3 points -
Rebel logo
Scrolling Steve and 2 others reacted to courtym74 for a topic
I'm finally back up and running with a new saw and rebuilt shop. Here's something I was wanting to try. It's the Rebel logo from a certain star war movie cut out of the platter from a computer hard drive. Be careful if you attempt this some platters are made of glass coated with a micron thin layer of metal. Most are plated aluminum though.3 points -
some more things i did
bobscroll and one other reacted to amazingkevin for a topic
i scrolled the bottoms of the donation boxes in 3/4" teak and kept the cut outs as pay .he didn't tell me there was no pay as its for his temple ,he's from Thailand but the temple is here .I cut 40 pieces.now tonight he tells me he has 40 to 50 more boxes to cut so that's 40 x 4 or 50 x 4 bottom pieces to cut.in mahogany this time.I'll do something with the scrap i hope.he's very very meticulous and was well pleased with my work for him.and then the big nosey the dragon i made for my doctors secretary ,She put stones as eyes on him .nice touch.and then there's the steve good cross i did in termite infested wood ,but they moved out .The wood was to damaged so i cut the bad parts out and salvaged a Jesus plaque out of it.and then the jppainted cross i droped and it shatterd into 5 pieces on one side of the cross ,So that's another fix and save going on.not sure if i showed olga before.2 points -

That is why I said the Hawk is very well made saw... it is built for commercial use.. unlike the DeWalt... I got tired of replacing the DeWalts under warranty and took one apart myself and replaced the bearings / sleeves and added my own high quality grease.. I can get about 2 years out of it now before needing the front exposed section rebuilt again.. I've thought about looking into modifying it on this next rebuilt that it desperately needs again.. and looking into replacing those lousy open bearings with some sort of sealed bearings.. that would help a lot especially on the front portion of the saw where the sawdust falls right down onto the top of the needle bearings in the lower rocker assembly... guess you do get what you pay for.. certainly not designed to run 8 hours a day.. I'd like to take a excalibur saw apart or even the new Seyco saw ( basically a modified excalibur ) and see what they use for bearings...as they are the same basic design as a DeWalt as far as the arms and internal parts are very similar.. Probably why excalibur built that little dust collection deal on the bottom of the table.. to help keep dust out of those bearings.. suppose I could build something similar on my DeWalt. I intend to purchase another high end saw.. and intend to take a serious look into the newer Hawks.. with the adjustable lower arm..1 point

Thanks again all. Yeah, i make up 2 same size "wooden canvases" and stain one with a light stain and one with a darker stain which makes a nice contrast and usually flip the bottom one 90 degrees. Cant really see it on the photos i posted. This is a Wales flag i did to show what i mean. Didnt flip this 90 degrees though as i liked how the grain went with the dragon.1 point
