Base is popular 3/4 " by 4 long ,has 1/8'' dowel in each end to allow it to turn, It can be almost straight or "Z" shape, or square, I was using glass votive thought I would try this to see if it would work. The top is reduced from the round vase about 2" tall and 1/2 through the middle. cut with #3 FD blade and the base and top are from pine 1/4" Thanks for looking aND COMMENTS welcome Jerry.

  3. This fretwork was found in First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, TN. From a distance, it looks like one piece, close up you can see how he put it together. I would love to see the saw he did this on. It could have been with a hand fretsaw, but I doubt it. I'm thinking early pedal powered model.

  6. Hi Jim, Puzzle blades are extremely thin and are meant for using with 1/8" or 1/4" wood to make ultra tight turns with the narrowest gaps possible. You can use them for other intricate work also if you prefer. Compare the width of the Olsen Skip Tooth (page 2) size 3/0 blade which is the smallest they make, compared to the Flying Dutchman Superior Puzzle Blade. When cutting puzzles obviously the gap between pieces is very important. Whereas it's not as critical for every day intricate fretwork. If you enjoy cursing every time a blade snaps, you'll love puzzle blades. ;-) http://www2.woodcraft.com/PDF/Olson-scrollblade-chart.pdf http://www.scrollsawbladespatterns.com/puzzle_style.htm Iggy

  7. there was a birthday party here and a little girl needed her name made,i had way to many beers but was able to do as requested with only one mistake,The girl kneeling wasn't close enough to the letter. And the dw788 type 2, i drove 30 miles round trip for and gave an extra 20 for to hold it ,Let me have it for just $80.00.It's got miles on it and needs re greasing but it will last a bit yet.Came with the stand too but that's still in the trunk.my back was killing me from man handling the saw into the shop.this makes #9 i have owned and still have 8,i gave one to my friend that moved away he uses it too.Unlike others i've given saws too.

    Coin Inlay Variation

Still experimenting. Wanted to try to create some contrast for the gold (brass), and didn't have any "liver of sulphur" to create the patina, so I torched the Kennedy to oxidize it and turn it dark. When I put the seal on it, I think it may turn to a shiny black. Anyway, not sure if I like it yet, but it is always fun to experiment.

    New Sander

Finally got my new Flatmaster Sander this week, and got it assembled today. I can see many uses for it, from cleaning up the back of my Intarsia before putting the backing on, to sanding a scrollsaw piece to clean it up. Found today that it does a good job of cleaning up rough sawn lumber too. May not be perfectly even for thickness, but for Intarsia, that won't be an issue, as I sand everything when shaping. Took me about 12 passes to clean up some cedar on one side, but it beats having to pass on this less expensive lumber. This is similar to the Sand-Flee, but since I could never get anyone to answer questions from the company that sells the Sand-Flee, I opted for the Canadian version. Comes without motor, but that was no issue, as Harbor Freight sells a decent motor. Overall, the cost was still less than the sand-Flee and since the sander uses Velcro backed paper, it does not get hot, therefore no buildup on the paper, which translates to longer lasting paper.

    Special Thanks to Sasho

We have so many fantastic pattern designers here at the Village who share their talent with all of us. Thanks to all of you and a special thanks to Sasho for this creative pattern. I thought the arrow head shape would be fitting. It sure is fun to cut. I used 1/4" MDF plywood.

  15. Finished the weekend. The pattern is by Sue Mey and purchased from her website. I reduced the pattern by 25% to fit my stock of Ash. The dream catcher is 1/2" Ash and the feathers are 1/8" Walnut and 1/4" Spalted Maple. I used FD UR #1 on the dream catcher and FD New Spiral #3/0 on the feathers. The finish is one coat of sanding sealer and two coats of spray Shellac. Comments welcome.

  31. Thanks for clarifying Jim. Perhaps @Travis can provide you with some more insight. I don't have a Windows 10 computer here at my house so I am not sure I can be of further help in trying to help you sort it out. Perhaps someone else who is running on Windows 10 can. Do you know how to take "screen shots" to show us what you are seeing?

  44. That is an impressive piece on many levels. If it was done with today's saws and pattern making it would be awesome, but to think it was done 132 years ago is truly impressive.

    Puzzles

I put a warning label on all my puzzles that have choking pieces. There are govt guidelines on what constitutes a choking hazard. Just google for the guidelines on dimensions. I used those dimensions to build a gizmo with those dimensions which I take to craft shows to show folks choking and no-choking pieces.

  49. The only real difference I see is that on the old site, I logged out each time, but checked "Remember Me." Each time I fired up the laptop, I was logged in. With the new site, It is also checked "Remember Me", but it doesn't. I log in manually, each time. Oh the agony of it all.
