Rose Trivet
Smudger and 5 others reacted to Denny Knappen for a topic
A Steve Good pattern that included initials, but decided not to include initials. Maybe this should be called 'Four Roses Trivet'. I used 1/2" Cherry approximately 6" in diameter. Not shown, but there are three plastic round feet on the bottom. I used FD UR #3 blades. The finish is sanding sealer, sanding, and one coat of spray Shellac. Comments welcome.6 points -

This is a Steve Good pattern listed in his newsletter last week. I used 2 1/4 degrees for the bevel cut. This raised each piece by 1/4". I used 1/2" Mahogany approximately 7 1/2" square and FD UR #3 blades. The finish is sanding sealer, sanding, and one coat of spray Semi Gloss Polyurethane. Comments welcome.4 points -

Thanks to Russell "Birchbark" I was able to make this project for some school kids to give to there teacher. I used walnut & yellow heart with a blue paper between them. Cut with FDUR #5 & #3 blades also used FD #3 New Spiral. Finished with lacquer spray. Without people like Russell I wouldn't be able to do special orders like this. Thanks!3 points

i love to scroll and here's proof in the pudding.Painting is not my expertise .But I'm working on it.I dust the projects a few time and then lay on a wet coat to keep the gloss going just like car painting i did. It's been 3 days in a row of sweltering hot weather here.I do what i can and then take a break for an hour laying down with the fan on me.then up an at em to glitter done.Rattle cans spraying ,Rustoleum paintustoleum.2 points -

I am delivering the rocking horse this afternoon. Of course at the last minute; I thought of a gift for the little girl whose brother is getting the horse. So from layout to assembly was a rush job. It is made from about 3/8 pine and a firewood base. I spent about 1-1/2 hours total on it. The horses feet are pegged into the base with bamboo skewers, I have found that they do work well for this sort of thing. The base has very cheap felt feet put on it to remain scratch free. Deliberately left with no finish so she can paint it as she wishes I did a stack of 2 and made a template for more at the same time.2 points

Smudger reacted to amazingkevin for a topic
there was a birthday party here and a little girl needed her name made,i had way to many beers but was able to do as requested with only one mistake,The girl kneeling wasn't close enough to the letter. And the dw788 type 2, i drove 30 miles round trip for and gave an extra 20 for to hold it ,Let me have it for just $80.00.It's got miles on it and needs re greasing but it will last a bit yet.Came with the stand too but that's still in the trunk.my back was killing me from man handling the saw into the shop.this makes #9 i have owned and still have 8,i gave one to my friend that moved away he uses it too.Unlike others i've given saws too.1 point -

In tryed, but this is all i could The do.i have a bucket list but it's not happening today. The manager at publix hates me.I told him many times i fear for my life trying to get out of my car to shop in his store .I'm terrified of the drunks and homeless panhandling money from me before i even get out of the car.Two letters to corporate office has instilled the same fear in him now to do something or lose your job.i can't fight my way out of a wet paper bag why should i deal with vermin in the parking lot.they are afr4aid to come out of their comfort zone(air conditioning) to solve the problem./1 point -
As many of you know I live at the beach and have been selling puzzles for almost a year. I came up with this idea last week and had Harvey Byler draw them up for me and I cut them today. I live in Carolina Beach and just 2 miles down the road is Kure Beach. The two beach communities here on the island. I'm thinking of offering them with the blue base as well as the natural color base. What do you think? The original SEA TURTLE and DOLPHIN I always painted the base blue. See pictures. Let me know what you think.1 point

Drum Sander
jollyred reacted to Sycamore67 for a topic
I have been thinking about building a drum sander for quite awhile and recently built one. It is powered by my Shopsmith Mark 5 which I purchased many years ago for $125. Mine is loosely based upon the StumpyNubs version and the one built by Shipwright on the Lumberjocks forum. The drum is built with a 5/8" steel rod and 4" plywood disks and is about 18" long. The disks were glued together and then turned using the Shopsmith as a lathe. The end of the shaft connects with the Shopsmith and the speed can be varied. The ends of the shafts are also supported with sealed bearings. The top is based upon the StumpyNubs design with the 2" wide aluminum bar set into the baltic birch top. The sand paper is hook and loop. The Velcro on the drum was ordered on Amazon and is the industrial strength velcro and works well. This was not a real easy build. Getting the drum the same diameter along the length and running true took some time. The top also took a lot of time and getting it aligned with the drum was also time consuming. I added a PVC pipe running through the sander to collect the dust and it works pretty well but I am working to improve it. I have been using it to clean up some boards for projects and also for making some boxes with finger joints. I am pleased with it. It is also possible to add a thickness sander to this design by going under the drum. I have not done this yet and will have to decide if I want this added feature.1 point -

Dark colors need less coats i found out but rarely di i get requests for dark .i like cheap too!1 point -
I think the colour adds something but what about doing just the word "Beach" in colour and leaving the two end pieces natural? That would make the "Beach" stand out even more but you would lose the nice contrast where the dolphin nose and tail enter the water. Just a thought, but maybe you can experiment and see what you like. Rob1 point

My Hegner Modifications
SCROLLSAW703 reacted to Rob for a topic
You could make a larger top and use wooden turn-buttons around the edge of the original table to hold it in place. That would make it easy to remove and replace and should work I would think? Rob1 point -
Wow I bet they loved it. Looks great Marg1 point

I prefer the blue bases it brings them to life. Oh and I agree about the last A in Carolina. Marg1 point

My Hegner Modifications

Yes Paul I do use the hold down. I have some arthritis in my hands and using the hold down on thicker materials really helps with the pain and fatigue. I also have the quick clamp The amount the upper arm now raises is substantial and really comes in play with larger fretwork. I have been thinking about an auxiliary table made of 1/8" baltic birch plywood covered with laminate and held in place by 2 countersunk 10/24 screws. I don't have a problem drilling and tapping my table and 2 screws won't be too inconvenient.1 point -

Help With Clock
Lucky2 reacted to WayneMahler for a topic
Travis, you can also route out the back of the clock face to fit the clock fixture if your equipped to do so. I would also look up Klock-it as they have a huge selection of clocks up there as well as music boxes etc. Good luck with your project and please post a photo when completed.1 point -
I like the sign and the display stand both very well. The setting can either make project look better or worse. I admit to not being careful enough of my photo set-ups. Nice job.1 point
