A combination of all kinds of tools needed to make these. Made from rescue wood (salvage). Always more work than they look like. Fence cedar and slight burning on the wheels for effect. Not a difficult project; but, does always take longer than anticipated The wheelbarrows are NOT designed to be used for hauling; strictly as planters too. It has a 10 inch wheel and a 10 by 15 inch box. Drain holes have already been added. The wheels are made of fence boards, placed at 90 degrees from each other; then glued and nailed together. The wheel straps are more for looks than for function, just to help the vintage appearances. I then use a metal piece with all kids of holes after finding the center by X lines. I screw it down loose enough to go around it and draw my circle. I then cut the circle on the scrollsaw. I do a lot of the smaller cuts on the scrollsaw just because it is always ready to go. As always happy to answer any questions. I do have raid privileges at fence company's dumpster. I have found some very nice hardwoods in there too. If you have one semi-close; asking them may turn out very good for you. I had actually gone to the fence company to buy some of their rejects and they told me go to the dumpster and help myself! I sometimes take the yardmen a small token of appreciation, cookies, bottle openers, and even kids ornaments. .4 points

Had a customer ask me for a couple of large Montana Wall Hangings out of barn wood. Her husband added their brand to them. After they were completed, she changed her mind and asked if we could add spaces for pictures. It was a challenge to keep the barnwood together while cutting out the frame holes. And I actually lost one completely and had to build a new one. But finally got it done. The great thing is I get free patterns at gas stations as the state tourism dept. sets out free paper maps for people! Using the maps, these wall hangings are about 33" wide by 19" tall. I know the one looks a little cluttered with the pictures and the brand, but that's what she wanted... All built out of 100 year old reclaimed barnwood.3 points -

I am betting that I am probably the only one that counts clean-up time into my pricing.. But these saws can make a mess.. and yes.. I shut down everyday and clean up.. If I worked in a factory or other type of setting.. you get paid to sweep or mop etc.. why shouldn't you get paid for your time cleaning up the shop after doing a project for someone.. I think too many people charge too little because they are only thinking about the end result piece... and not really thinking about all the little things that goes into actually making that piece.. I personally start charging the minute I walk into my shop.. whether I spend a whole day cleaning or sawing.. work is work.. and I am not working in a messy shop to make someone's piece cheaper..2 points -

The first Saturday for the Carolina Beach Farmers Market is in the books. Memorial Day weekend, beautiful weather and a good sized crowd. Sales were exactly average today. 27 puzzles sold in 5 hours. So, no complaints. However, 11 of the 27 were unpainted dinosaurs at my new low price point of $10 bucks. Still walked home with a little over $500 in my pocket and it's just 4 blocks from my house. Normally vendors are only allowed 7 Saturdays throughout the season but the guy that oversees it takes care of me and says I can come anytime I want, so any time the weather forecast looks good, I'll be there. Next Saturday looks good. So, not too many to restock this week which is good, gives me extra time to stock up for the mega event in August. I had heard about an event in downtown Wilmington 10 miles from home going on this weekend. We went and scoped it out this afternoon. It looked OK, but as my wife and I discussed it, it's 2 days (Saturday and Sunday) over Memorial Day weekend which pretty much ruins the holiday weekend for anything we want to do, so I likely won't be adding it to my schedule. I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. We're hitting the beach with friends who are visiting for the holiday. Iggy1 point

Hi Sir. My pattern is an old Wildwood Designs # 1194. Their site (& Cherry Tree) doesn't let you enter a pattern number. You can look in their catalog or ring their phone. Good luck Friend. http://cherrytreetoys.com/wildwood-designs/ jerry1 point

I agree wholeheartedly! Yes indeed. I would rather give a piece as a gift to someone who appreciates it, than sell it below what I think it is worth! It is the same with my fiber products (I spin yarn and knit).1 point -

How Do You Feed Your Scroll Saw? - A Suggestion

I also agree with you Charley and years back i found that when starting with a square piece of wood i cut each corner off, this gives me 8 edges for my fingers to use in turning the work, for me it seems to help the control work1 point -
How Do You Feed Your Scroll Saw? - A Suggestion
SCROLLSAW703 reacted to stoney for a topic
That is very good advice Charley and will help many beginners. I guess it is quite natural to use the arms and shoulders when first using a scroll saw. I remember when I first started my neck and back would tighten up after just a short while. Beginner scrollers have a tendency to over react when going off the pattern lines which also causes fatigue. Thanks again Charley you provided a very worth while service today.1 point
