    Just For Us

I stay very busy making things for other people.....either to sell or give away. Occasionally I make something for us. This is also a good project for me to take to the Farmers Market to show a personalized project. Made of red oak stained Special Walnut.

I have no idea who the design is but it is a fairly popular pattern. It cut from 3mm Hoop Pine with 2/0 Reverse Tooth flat blades. Once again it is for my neighbour, she loves my work. Marg

  8. Started in 2015, completed today. I started this got it cut out, did lots of sanding and them put it in a cardboard box and set it on the "Unfinished" shelf. Last week Heppnerguy and his wife came to visit. He brought me a box of nice veneers. Some were Mahogany, just perfect for lining the "Five Dragon Box". Last weekend I glued the box together, today I lined it with the veneer (thanks so much Dick). The box is approximately 17"L x 6"W x 7"T. The pattern came from "finescrollsaw.com" a place of beautiful patterns and great friendly service.

  9. I've often thought about how it would be fun to belong to a club. But first I would have to find some scrollers. I know of none in my area. Other than meeting a sharing, I think it would be fun to come up with ideas of projects to donate to activities like toys for kids in hospitals, or for needy children.

    Unity Cross

I was asked if I could make a Unity Cross for a young couple getting married, I drew this up. I tried to make it like the ones that you use in the ceremony but the 1/4" poplar is just too fragile, and I did not want to take the chance of it breaking during the wedding (would be a very awkward moment) so I just wrote it up a little differently for the couple. The base is a slice of my pecan firewood, or maybe oak, not real sure. EDIT: I'm still new at this craft, so please criticisms and suggestions are really appreciated - only way I can get better.

  12. How many of you folks belong to a scroll saw club? If so, how active is your club? What sort of activities do you do? How do you recruit new members? How do you keep existing members active and interested? Does your club have a website or Facebook page? If you don't belong to a club, would you join if there was one local? What sorts of things would you want to get out of being a member of a scroll saw club? I'm not really conducting a poll, just looking for ideas and to generate some conversation on the topic. Thanks!

    Fretwork Tray

Fretwork tray designed by Steve Good cut from some rimu tongue and groove from the back of an old wardrobe and a piece of drawer side for the base. One coat of 50/50 BLO and mineral turpentine. I will give it a coat of beeswax once it is fully dry. This was fun to cut and I was able to stack cut the sides and ends which saved time. Rob

    Fretwork Tray

Beautiful piece of work. I love that wood, don't think I have seen it in for sale at websites. Amazing how it changes color so much when you put 50/50 BLO on. I love the color.

You did an excellent job of cutting. I love fretwork, but haven't found much time lately for anything. "Life" keeps getting in my way. I still check in regularly just to see what's going on.

    Outside Signs

Kevin I called Home Depot and they have it.. It can be bought in quarts, gallons, and five gallons. I told them what I was using it for and they said that there were some better products. I ask if they would last four years. I got no answer. People don't believe it but if you think about it you can believe it.

    3 Boxes

I'd normally use my CNC router for stuff like this, but it was tied up with another project. I wanted to try a new (for me) hinge, experiment with different wood combinations, and spray lacquer from a gun for the first time. Erik = Santos Mahogany with Figured Eucalyptus inlay. I learned from this one that it looks better when the figure is on the box and the letters are plainer. Sherry = Bubinga with Guatambu inlay. I like Bubinga, thought I had some yellowheart scraps for the letters but couldn't find it. Edward = Low figured Leopardwood with Wenge inlay. The blade went a bit wonky on the final d. Both nice woods, but next time I'd brush on a 2nd or 3rd coat of sealer before spraying because the pores are very open. All approx 5W x 9L x 2.25H.

  45. FINALLY!! After workin' on a project what seems like forever, I finished it last night! The customers were totally satisfied, they paid their bill, & left the shop happy! The customer brought me a 24" x 24" x 8" pine box w/a glass front about 2 1/2 months ago, along w/a Christmas wreath that they wanted to fit in these boxes. The one they brought was to small, & they couldn't get the glass out of it. So, I had to destroy the smaller box for some dado measurements, & I went to work sizin' the new ones around this wreath. I planed the pine to clean it up a little, sanded & stained it w/a cherry stain. Yes, I used a prestain on the pine, otherwise it would look like, well, ya know. So, after the dadoes were all cut, & the 1/4" plywood cut for the bottoms of the two boxes, it had to be stained. Then everything had to be shot w/2 coats of exterior urethane. Then it came to put together time. That went fairly smooth, in between family obligations, like the rest of the project. Then came time to put the glass in the fronts of these boxes. I spent more time cleanin' blood off of things than I did installin' the glass! These boxes are boxes to set at the headstones, & designed to protect the memorials. They are finally done! I get the week end off!!!

  46. This is what I came up with to finish off the puzzles I did for my grandson. At least these will store the puzzles when he is done putting together. I did not put a finish on them because he like to color and paint. I think he would enjoy that as much as putting them together.

  47. Hi everyone, I was finally able to get back on. Had a little trouble for a few days. I just finished this portrait for my niece who's having a baby in a few months so I thought I would get a head start on it. This is an 8 x 10 and the pattern is by Grampa from our pattern library. It's 1/4 inch B/B and I was able to stack cut it so I have two of them. Never know when you might need another one. The lettering was a little tricky and you had to go slow. I used a #3 reverse blade with no trouble. Hope she likes it.
