    Another cap rack.

Since I made my one granddaughter a cap rack I definitely had to do the same for her sister. She likes mandalas so I included one in her cap rack.

    New version...

Harvey Byler's SEA TURTLE is one of my top sellers being that they nest here on our beach every year and folks really get into the critters. A couple of months ago I came up with an idea/design and had Harvey draw up one that says CAROLINA BEACH... In the 7 weeks I've been selling it, it's now my top seller. A week ago Saturday I had a customer come up and really liked it and asked if I could do one for the place where they have a summer home... CAPTIVA ISLAND... so I placed the order with Harvey and I cut it today. The customer said they know the guy that runs a gift shop there and they'd show it to him and maybe he'll want to try some in his shop. I hear that a lot, so I never hold my breath. I had the guy that runs the gift shop at a zoo go crazy over my zoo animals. We emailed a couple of times, then he disappeared. Another time I had the head of the Chihuahua rescue group get excited about the Chihuahua puzzle and I offered suggestions such as spelling out RESCUE in the body and then they could sell them (I'd give them a discount) and they could stimulate donations, etc... Never heard from her again... Anyway, here are the original Sea Turtle, the Carolina Beach version and the custom request Captiva Island Iggy

    Small Box

I made this for a friend whose daughter passed away recently of cancer & she wanted this to put some special things in of hers. It is 5' x 1.5" & used ultra gloss for the finish. Nearly forgot it is a pattern from Sheila Landry. Cheers Peter

The pattern is by Gayle from over at the Scroller's Cafe. I cut this from 2.5mm Bamboo. It's the first time I cut Bamboo and at first I found it a bit splintery but it cuts great, no voids and sands up beautifully. There was hardly any fuzzies at all which is great I hate spending a lot of time sanding them out. I did not stack cut I wanted to see how it cut by itself and I must say, I am impressed. The blades I used are Olsen 2/0 Reverse Tooth. Marg

Placed the diamond tred between 2 pieces of plywood glued the pattern to th wood. Got a cobalt drill bit to drill the holes. Cut it with flying Dutchman iron man metal cutting blades and went slow and steady.

  13. Saturday was week 6 of the farmers market here in my town and sales have been about as consistent as they can be... Puzzles sold = 27, 29, 33, 24, 24, 26 No complaints, it's just the right number for restocking each week while continuing to cut and stockpile for the big event in August. Nearby town, Southport puts on a tremendous 3 day event for the July 4th holiday including arts and crafts vendors. Over 130 vendors within a park in town. I found out about it too late to sign up this year and will look to do it next year... although... July 4th is on Wednesday next year, so not sure which 3 days they'll do the big shindig... Just wondering if having it in the middle of the week will impact visitors and attendance... Something to ponder for a few months... I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday. Iggy

    what saw to choose

You can ask 100 scrollers that question, & based on their preference, experience, expectations of the saw, what they do w/it, the list goes on, you'll get 101 different answers. My advice is to figure out what type of projects you want/like to do, how big of a saw you want within your budget, then start researching saws from there. Get away from the pin type blades.

  44. Late last fall I ordered some parts for my 1993 Hawk 220VS.. after about 2 weeks and my order status showing "waiting to be fulfilled" I gave them a call.. I will say I was getting quite irritated with how slow things was going with my order.. also wanted to mention that it took me a few days of calling several times a day even to get through.. as I kept getting a busy tone.. was ready to cancel my order.. but once I got through.. to a real person that actually speaks English good, LOL ( try that with DeWalt ) I was very impressed with the information she had given me about my 220VS as well as info about other saws I was looking at etc.. When I complained on SSV or some other scroll saw forum.. I was reminded that I am ordering parts for a 20 - 25 year old saw that has been out of production since the mid 1990's.. They had to set up tooling etc to make the parts I had ordered.. Try that with most any other brand of saw... most other companies will say "sorry we no longer make/stock parts for your model saw...but we can sell you a new saw.. At the time I was talking with them I was looking at a saw that the VS was erratic.. she told me that motor was and VS unit was bad and that the company that made the motor is out of business for those real old saws.. and said that if I wanted to send the saw to them they would retro-fit a new motor on it for about $350.. Don't think any other saw company would do that.. While $350 is steep for that old of a saw and I passed on buying it.. I just wanted to mention that they offered to fix / repair that saw.. instead of trying to sell me their new model.. Kevin

    Wonder Bowl

I finished the 'Wonder Bowl' found in SWWC Fall 2017 issue #68. The pattern is by Dave Van Ess. There are several bowl making changes, most dramatic is no drilling. I used 5/8" Western Red Cedar and FD Polar #3 blades. The finish is spray Shellac. Comments welcome.
