  1. This is a super easy project I put together, but I really like the message. I could care less about material things excluding my tools.

    Catch of the day

Going to see my nephew on the Carolina coast in a few weeks. He is big into deep sea fishing and thought he would like this. Got the plan from Scroller and added the name of his boat. Cut from 1/8" BB. Very floppy once all the pieces are taken out. Sanded the back before I did that. Backed it up with 1/4" PW and stained with ebony. Didn't want to paint because the contact cement may not hold. Hope he likes it.

    New guy from Iowa

Just joined here. I'm from Iowa and have been using a scrollsaw for the past 20 years. I have a 26 inch RBI Hawk that I bought in 1996 new. Never had any trouble with it and have used it a lot. The pictures are some of the signs I have been making the last few years.

  11. In a previous post, I was able to get help from Russell AKA Birchbank and came up with the pattern for the head and then I matched to the SSW article and added my own letters. Thank you. I am quite happy. Cut in Baltic Birch, Finish is just food coloring.

  12. For my puzzles, I use poplar and the main reason is because I really like the color variations from board to board and even within a single board. Every so often I find a board that has some nice black streaks in it and I will buy it and put it aside for when I need to make PENGUIN's. Even the everyday regular boards have beautiful shade variations that I enjoy seeing in the finished puzzles. Here is a snapshot of the 19 puzzles I cut yesterday and today that I just oiled. Iggy

Family Roots pattern from Sue Mey on salvaged dresser top. Sad Puppy by Paul (Grampa), had to cut, wife said so and had no argument from me. Thanks for the great pattern Paul. The two portraits are of wife and self from a pattern by Russell (Birchbark), thanks again Russell. Jeff

  14. One of our suppliers for ArtCrafters has great display items. On is this Wrought Iron Twig Motif Ornament Stand. I thought I would buy a few and I tried my latest Miniature Birdhouses on the stand. I think it makes a great display.

  26. Kevin, I don't think you can judge this type of saw based on any cheap Chinese saws. There is much less to go wrong on this type of saw than on your 788s. We might have to look for you a good used craigslist Hegner and see if you can wear one of those out.

  27. tuner, unfortunately many people don't understand anything mechanical and are intimidated my them. I was blessed to be raised by a German toolmaker., mechanical things are my comfort zone. Randy in 12 years I have never worn out one of the newer clamps, and I am heavy handed.

Absolutely love the family tree, great lettering. Of course you had to do Sad Pup, who can say no to that. And you and your wife's portraits are excellent. Great work Jeff. Marg

  37. I am just experimenting with food colour and we just put a few drops in some water. It seems you have to make fairly strong. Just dipped in left for a minute or so and then turned over and put on wire racks to dry. Did not wipe. Turned out what we expected. The red could have been brighter but the boss was happy. I have done pine quite recently and it turned out even brighter. The 2 yellow ones below are food colouring. The red is Keda dye. (I not sure it food save so I did not use as I think these may hit a mouth.

  38. That should make it trivial to reset it when it moves. I re-adjusted the older clamp and will see how it does. If it moves, I'll re-locktite it.

    Sizing.

I use excel.. open blank workbook. insert picture. drag to size you want. Switch to page layout view and you can see how many pages it will take and adjust accordingly. It will print across multiple pages just fine, just trim and tape together. Also works with the free version of excel or whatever it is called.

    Fall magazine

Frugal is not a word that has ever been associated with me. I look forward to each issue as it is something other than bills and junk mail. And if I get one new idea or or project direction it is worth every penny to me. JT I agree with many of your points and yes there are lots of places to find ideas. But I will say that SSWWC has taken my hobby in directions I would never have thought possible when I first started scrolling. And like Randy I truly enjoy the magazine. Randy a few years ago we had a local vendor selling lath art, I was blown away with his depictions of local maritime themed scenes. They were commanding some serious money unfortunately it was not the best venue for his work. On another note I missed the open house as it was great to meet some of our friends and designers in person. I had surgery and would not have been able to go anyway.
