I met Gerald several years ago then found out he lives 1/10th of a mile from me. We talked a few weeks ago and found out he has a hobby... he catches moles. I invited him over and he caught 3 moles in 4 days. Our yard has been mole-free for over 2 weeks now. I made him a Bluebird house to show my appreciation. It's Eastern red cedar.5 points

Quick update... the replacement saw arrived yesterday afternoon. I got it setup and have been cutting kids puzzles out of pine this morning to get comfortable with it. It's much better although there is still some vibration, but I don't know what is normal for Hawk's. The one very good thing is, no blades breaking. The first saw, I snapped 5 blades in an hour and so far I haven't had one break and I'm using #3 blades. I've emailed Nilus at Bushton Manufacturing thanking him for getting me the replacement and I have the first one boxed up and ready for UPS to pick up this afternoon. I'll continue testing, playing and tweaking and will provide a full review once I swap out a few dozen blades, make interior cuts and cut a couple dozen of my real puzzles out of poplar as a thorough test. Looks like my farmers market will be a rain-out tomorrow, so I'll get some extra cutting time. Enjoy the weekend everyone, Iggy2 points

Instead of my old Jet JSS16, I want to buy a new saw. I choose in the price range of $300-600. In this price I can buy: Delta 40-694 - $ 420 new, 300 - used. The price to be attractive, but few reviews. Is this reliable as a DeWalt? DeWalt - 530 - new, 400 uzed HEGNER Multicut 1 - used. The disadvantage is the smaller size of the table 14. Hegner Multimax-18 - 450 $ RBI HAWK Scroll Saw Model 214 - 180$ old, it is not clear his condition. What should I choose? Can I trust the quality of Delta?1 point

Now it is going up my butt.I know that it does not bother a lot members here that only do Scroll Work. But because I also sell pens along with my Scroll Work.I am running into this more and more.Everything from pen refills that cost $.90 to a $60.00 Pen Kit. From 7.00 Pen Blanks to 50.00 Pen blanks. What is going on Some of these have been out of stock for months on end.I used to be Loyal to certain on line suppliers That is over with If I need 10 items and only 7 are in stock I look elsewhere for all 10 first. If you can not stock it you should not be in business.Only one company I deal with States we do not know when and if this item will be back in stock. All other post NOTIFY ME I am Done Venting Thanks for listening. My Wife won't1 point

On the Accessory arm, there are some holes (above the air line) meant to be used to hold the clamps steady while you tighten the blades. This isn't quite a sophisticated as the Hegner approach, but I think it will work fine. Of course, my saw didn't have the hole drilled in the correct location for their newer clamps Nilus said the existing holes were for prior blade clamps, but that they would add the third hole for the current clamps going forward. I have no warranty (for multiple reasons), so they are not obligated nor did they offer to fix it, which is ok, because I have a tweak that will work for me. So the forward hole that supposed to fit my clamp, per the manual is too low. There is nothing I can do about that without grinding into the arm. The second hole, which was for some other clamp is too high, so I can work with that. That just means I have to find a spacer and glue there to make it fit. So I rolled a piece of metal (A Fat Coin) to a thickness of .066", and glued it above the second hole. If it stays there, it will work fine. Here is how it supposed to work according to the Manual First Hole Intend for this per the diagram above, but too low Second Hole Intended for another Clamp Type, but too High Here is the fix with the metal Spacer SuperGlued into Place1 point

Why I Prefer Poplar
SCROLLSAW703 reacted to Iguanadon for a topic
For my puzzles, I use poplar and the main reason is because I really like the color variations from board to board and even within a single board. Every so often I find a board that has some nice black streaks in it and I will buy it and put it aside for when I need to make PENGUIN's. Even the everyday regular boards have beautiful shade variations that I enjoy seeing in the finished puzzles. Here is a snapshot of the 19 puzzles I cut yesterday and today that I just oiled. Dick is fine, a busy man. I received a message from him a couple days ago. He has pop in a commented a couple times on the forum, over the past few weeks. He is still settling into his new digs, exploring, and making friends. I am sure he will be back in do time. He may be sitting on his beautiful new covered patio, fishing in the lake!! Life is tough.1 point

I am very very excited by this news. These saws have been available from Axminster and Carbatec for years, and more recently Pegas, and now King (or Excelsior). I would have expected King to keep the Excelsior brand on the saw which I thought was very cool. However, I was tired of seeing EX available all over the world, except for the US.1 point

Thanks for the tips. Yesterday I ordered Delta, now I just have to wait. It did not last long, only a month - to cross the ocean and cross the customs office;)1 point
