    Tree Illusion.

Hi All, A few days ago I asked if anyone had any ideas where I could get this pattern. Within a few hours forum member Chachi very kindly put up a copy. Big thanks to you.

  3. I know that I have not been on very often in the past month or so but with the move , buying all new furniture and setting up my shop, I have been pretty busy. However I did manage to get a few requests and decided it was about time to show you all that I am not permanently asleep here in the land of the sun. So here are some of the things that I remembered to take photos of before I shipped them. The light was poor in the room I took them in so they are a little fuzzy as a result. The remembrance plaque i make and give to anyone that has lost a loved one that I know. I have made a countless number of these, The second one is a Steve Good pattern that I had orders for three of these. the Arizona State plaque (designed by Sam Custodio) I have made three of these, the potters plaque is another of Sam's patterns I made this for a potter friend of mine as a surprise gift, and the wedding cross I mailed to an exchange student that lived with us 5 years ago and it getting married in three weeks. She lives in Slovakia. So you see, though I have not been real busy, I have not been out of the shop completely Dick heppnerguy

    Custom Piggy Bank

There is a new barbecue place near me called the Proper Pig and one of the stores wanted me to make them a tip bank using the logo as a guide. I made the hat and monocle with my 3d printer but the moustache and bowtie were compound cuts. I have not show them this yet. I think that they will be happy with it. DW

  7. Even with a really waxed table, there was too much drag to freely spin my medium sized fretwork pieces around. For those of you that have experienced this on the dw788 table (with the heavy mill marks), you already know what I'm talking about. BM table mill marks (at least on my particular saw) are "sharper"/more pronounced, if that makes sense. Anyway, the drag was unacceptable. This image will give you an idea of the issue. So, I took a trick from the dw788 playbook, and used the same general approach many have done on the 788 to smooth my Hawk table. 1. Got out the random orbital sander, but on the 110 grit, and went over the table.2. Switched to 220 grit and went over the table3. Put a cloth over the end of the sander, and put that sander on steel wool4. Put Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish on the table, With just a cloth covering the end of the sander, I buffed it several times5. Re-Waxed it. So, did it work? Absolutely. There is very little drag and I can predictably spin the fretwork piece now. Anyway, maybe someone out there will find this helpful, maybe even a 788 owner with aggressive machine marks in their table. -------Randy

  9. Coming from an autobody repair guy.. I've always done this.. I get out my buffing compounds and my buffer and have at it on about all my new tools.. Back when my dad first got into scroll sawing after he retired back in 1987.. I came home to find him trying to wax his scroll saw table... I told him to hold on I will make it real smooth for him.. Got my buffing stuff out and made it real smooth in just a few minutes.. he talked about that for a long time.. because I made it sooo slick, LOL Kevin

  10. My first dog puzzle with the new saw... I'm so happy I could almost cry... OK, not really, but I'm very pleased. As I knew up front, the cutting is slower. I have not adjusted the pitch of the blade to make it more aggressive yet, I didn't want to make any adjustments until I was sure everything else is working properly so that I didn't end up having to figure out if something I did was causing an issue. That puzzle required 7 inside cuts and I had no trouble bottom feeding as I always did with my Dewalt. I won't have any issue with that at all. Just the fact the puzzle pieces slide in from either side is a HUGE thing and always my fear every time I crank up a new saw out of the box.

    Miniature Benches

Yep did think of that but don't know what people have to put in and what size so thought I'd leave it for any size on top are a phone holder or any other use. I didn't want to have to buy bottles as well to fit the holes or would have had to charge more for them. Roly

    Garapa wood?

Has anyone used or even heard of Garapa? It is a lot like yellowheart but a bit darker. From South America. In the picture the tag is misspelled, should be garApa not garOpa. Now have to find something to make out of it. It sold for $4.79 BF not bad.

  30. Phase 1 testing complete... cut 28 kids puzzles out of 3/4" pine using a #3 Olson Mach Speed blade. Vibration is just about gone after a bit of an adjustment to the main arm assembly I made late yesterday. I did snap a couple of blades, but I'm sure that was all on me as I get used to installing the blades in the clamps which need to be as close to 90 degrees as possible. I'm snapping them at the top, so I'll pay more attention and I'm sure it'll become second nature soon enough. Phase 2 testing later today will be to cut a few of my signature animal puzzles out of 3/4" poplar, including doing inside cuts which will give me practice with the upper blade clamp, over and over and over again.

    Garapa wood?

Kind of reminds me of Osage Orange. On a quick search it was compared to Ipe for decking on high end work. With the way the grains, it could possible make a beautiful box or similar item. Keep us posted as to what you decide.

  43. Stoney, I hope you are right, and I had that same thought. A few days ago I emailed and asked Nilus about making me some clamps drilled with #8 instead of the #7 bit to fit the m6x1. Haven't heard back, but, he hasn't said no yet. It would be nice if they would sell the better thumbscrew, but really, if they would just offer the clamps drilled and tapped for the M6x1, I would be happy. Since the existing clamp works for most users, I'm not sure how far they will go to accommodate me. Iggy is using the bigger blades, so he can probably get by with what he has just fine. I guess we will know if he has any blade slippage. It would, I think, make a difference for Doug and myself.

  44. You did a great job on that. I want that pattern and several others he has. I think breaking the habit of buying patterns is harder than breaking the smoking habit. .... ... ... was.

  45. Iggy, how does this compare to your 788? My 788 is a bit smoother, but the vibration is manageable, so I'm happy. Where is your harmonic range now (mine is at 6 and 7), but fairly smooth outside that range. Will it pass the nickel test with the saw turned all the way up? So glad you got this resolved. I know you do a different kind of work than me, but will still be interesting to see how this works for you. I don't have any issues with the blades sizes you normally use. I've been top feeding for years, but have switched to bottom feeding on the Hawk because it is just less hassle, even for a seasoned top feeder. That move has made the saw much more enjoyable for me. After I get a little time under my belt, I will force myself back into the top feeding mode until I can do it without the struggle.

  46. For my puzzles, I use poplar and the main reason is because I really like the color variations from board to board and even within a single board. Every so often I find a board that has some nice black streaks in it and I will buy it and put it aside for when I need to make PENGUIN's. Even the everyday regular boards have beautiful shade variations that I enjoy seeing in the finished puzzles. Here is a snapshot of the 19 puzzles I cut yesterday and today that I just oiled. Iggy

  47. And for those keeping score... For the past couple of months, my goal was to cut 5 a day... but since summer has begun and I'm working the farmers market on Saturday and Mrs. Ig and I tend to spend a day on the beach Sunday, I had to adjust to trying to cut 10 a day on weekdays and if I miss the target slightly it's no big deal.
