  2. A super nice young couple moved in next to us. I gave them about four designs to choose from and this was the winner. Made of red oak with a walnut inlay.

    Acorn and worm

This is a Steve Good pattern. It was easy and fun to make. I think the 3/4" standoffs are too long. I'd suggest making them 1/2". The background is just 1/2" BB ply stained cherry. I painted the edge black.

  7. I know that I have not been on very often in the past month or so but with the move , buying all new furniture and setting up my shop, I have been pretty busy. However I did manage to get a few requests and decided it was about time to show you all that I am not permanently asleep here in the land of the sun. So here are some of the things that I remembered to take photos of before I shipped them. The light was poor in the room I took them in so they are a little fuzzy as a result. The remembrance plaque i make and give to anyone that has lost a loved one that I know. I have made a countless number of these, The second one is a Steve Good pattern that I had orders for three of these. the Arizona State plaque (designed by Sam Custodio) I have made three of these, the potters plaque is another of Sam's patterns I made this for a potter friend of mine as a surprise gift, and the wedding cross I mailed to an exchange student that lived with us 5 years ago and it getting married in three weeks. She lives in Slovakia. So you see, though I have not been real busy, I have not been out of the shop completely Dick heppnerguy

  9. Even with a really waxed table, there was too much drag to freely spin my medium sized fretwork pieces around. For those of you that have experienced this on the dw788 table (with the heavy mill marks), you already know what I'm talking about. BM table mill marks (at least on my particular saw) are "sharper"/more pronounced, if that makes sense. Anyway, the drag was unacceptable. This image will give you an idea of the issue. So, I took a trick from the dw788 playbook, and used the same general approach many have done on the 788 to smooth my Hawk table. 1. Got out the random orbital sander, but on the 110 grit, and went over the table.2. Switched to 220 grit and went over the table3. Put a cloth over the end of the sander, and put that sander on steel wool4. Put Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish on the table, With just a cloth covering the end of the sander, I buffed it several times5. Re-Waxed it. So, did it work? Absolutely. There is very little drag and I can predictably spin the fretwork piece now. Anyway, maybe someone out there will find this helpful, maybe even a 788 owner with aggressive machine marks in their table. -------Randy

  10. A couple weeks ago Sasho posted a picture of a Superman trinket box. It caught my eye so I had to make one for myself but changed it up a bit. Last Friday I posted a picture of my project giving Sasho credit for inspiring me. My granddaughter saw my finished Superman box and told me that I needed to make a Batman box..........of coarse, I had to make it and got it done on Friday. Today at lunchtime I got a message from Sasho via FaceBook with a picture of a Batman box almost identical to the one I had just completed, with a message telling me that it might inspire me to make one of these. How Crazy!

    Custom Piggy Bank

There is a new barbecue place near me called the Proper Pig and one of the stores wanted me to make them a tip bank using the logo as a guide. I made the hat and monocle with my 3d printer but the moustache and bowtie were compound cuts. I have not show them this yet. I think that they will be happy with it. DW

    Garapa wood?

I have a lumber mill about 15 miles from me. They also import wood. Called Frank Miller Lumber. Can see on there website. I am very lucky to live so close to a great place to get any type of wood I need.

I was bored so I cut these for our park's educators. I plan on making many more as they are fun. Made of 3/4" poplar, cut with #3 and #5 pegas blades, and finished with 50/50 blo/ms.

    Garapa wood?

Kind of reminds me of Osage Orange. On a quick search it was compared to Ipe for decking on high end work. With the way the grains, it could possible make a beautiful box or similar item. Keep us posted as to what you decide.
