Commision work
Phantom Scroller and 7 others reacted to cyclistjim for a topic
I had a guy a work approach me about cutting something for him to give his fiancée. So he told me some ideas he had. I created some patterns from his ideas and he picked one. I still need to finish it but here it is all prepped to finish. I cut this out of some 1/4" purpleheart left over from another project that I was waiting to find a use for.8 points -

The place I get my tablecloths from is having a 50% off sale... I personally buy the FITTED TABLECLOTHS as I like the fact that they don't blow up and on the table when it's windy. They are "fitted" but they're not elastic or tight fits, they simply drape all around the table. $10 a piece, you can't beat it. If you do shows and could use some tablecloths, now is the time to snag some. https://www.tableclothsforless.com/table-linens-coupons-customers.html4 points

To clear a few things up, the original Excalibur saws were made by a company named Summerville Designs in Canada. The same company designed and manufactured the type 1 DeWalt 788. The Excalibur saws had a top lifting arm. An optional foot pedal to lift the top arm was available. The saw came in a 20 and 30 inch, General made woodworking tools in Canada. They made table saws, band saws, planners and jointer and other woodworking tools. They also had a division called General International. You can guess what that means. They imported tools from China and Taiwan. Somewhere down the line, General international bought the Excalibur line and moved the manufacturing to Taiwan along with the DeWalt 788. They improved the design of the Excalibur saws, which became the EX line and the DeWalt saw became the type 2. It has been a common practice in tool manufacturing to build tools on the same line for different distributors. It's up to the distributor to provide their own quality control. So even if the tools look alike, they may not be the same quality or have the same features. I don't know anything about King Tools, but just because it looks like an EX, it doesn't mean it's the same quality. Woodcraft sells a line of tools with the Woodriver name. They are all made in China and Taiwan. If you look at the Woodriver 16" scroll saw, it looks just like several other brands. So, the name hasn't changed, a different distributor is now selling them in the U.S.3 points

My latest efforts

Just waiting on these to dry before I wrap them. I don't know if they will load in the correct order so I'll do my best. Both sets of wording was done using stencil sets of different sizes. (I know Travis try's his best but I am a Luddite really) My Granddaughter Matilda is being christened next Sunday so this is one of my presents. Its 8mm ply and about 220 by 190mm. The backing is an old black shirt (cleaned first then cut up) glued on and then stiffened with Mod Podge, and then finished off with lacquer. A friend is moving house on Saturday. Her hobbies include hill walking and her favourite places are the Wicklow hills and the Camino in Spain which finishes in Santiago de Compestella. Both are 12mm ply and about 320mm by 90mm. I'll leave them just with BLO. I intend using a short chain to hang one under the other. I don't know why but I went through about 7 blades on the Glendalough piece. Both came from the exact same piece of waste ply.2 points -
I just finished this a few minutes ago. I want to thank Dave Monk for making the pattern for me. It's a little longer than Dave's because I made the bottom a little longer to hold the cast iron cat hooks that I was able to fine, since my Granddaughter loves cats. It's 18 inches long and 12 inches high and made out of 3/4 Oak using a #3 reverse blade. Thanks again Dave for the pattern.2 points

Hey Everyone, Answers to all the questions: I'm home early from the farmers market because a storm rolled in. Fortunately I saw it coming on radar and was able to pack up all of my puzzles before it hit and then just huddled under the tent until it passed. At which point I loaded up and came home. A shame, I was having a great day. 1) The tent came with 4 side panels. I only put one up as I saw the storm coming and decided instead to pack up instead of trying to get all 4 of them up. Here's the tent I bought. I'm very happy with it. Hexagonal shaped legs supposedly stronger against wind. The side panels attach easily and I can tell they would be great against rain if/when I ever need to put them all up. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H4UL6L6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 2) I use 5 gallon buckets that I fill with water and bungee cord them up to the frame of the tent as anchors. That way I'm not hauling around 100-150 pounds of weights to every event. 5 gallons of water weighs about 40 pounds. One on each corner works well. 3) The top banner is also new, I found this guy online. He was great to work with in designing it. He'll do anything you want. It was a bit pricey, but I'm very happy with it and think it's worth every penny. http://www.canopybanners.net/ Picture of today's setup with the new tent and banner. Sales were going GREAT til the storm came... darnit. Sold 24 in just 3 hours. My new kids puzzles were flying off the table with people snatching them up today and I had increased the price! LOL Used to be $10 each but I increased the price today to $15 each or 2 for $25 and everyone bought 2 at a time. Let me know if any other questions or if I failed to answer any. Iggy2 points

Dust collection on my 2005 Hawk G4-26
SCROLLSAW703 reacted to Rolf for a topic
I thought it was about time for me to add dust collection to my saw now that I have a quiet Festool Midi vacuum. I used 3/4 Loc-Line at the suction ends(.Amazon). The rest is PVC pipe and fittings from Lowes. I added a trap for those times when it sucks up that small piece you needed. The trap is not in the bottom picture as I just added it. I mounted the contraption to a piece wood and made it easily removable with a couple of Mag switches. I don't need to use my blower at all, the vac picks it all up. The vacuum comes on with my foot switch.1 point -

New Tent and New Banner
MTCowpoke22 reacted to Iguanadon for a topic
Received my new tent today along with a new banner I ordered for the top. Looks great in my opinion, what do you think? I also tested a new table layout for events in which I only have my 10'x10' space with vendors right up against me on both sides. Very happy with the layout and plenty of room for people on both sides.1 point -
Well, if you didn't do such nice work, that wouldn't happen... and that is a great box.1 point

I really like your setup. I have been giving serious thought about my lack of dust collection. Been sawing some cocobolo, and although I love the smell, the dust really gets to me. Just how quiet is a Festool compared to a, say Rigid vac? I guess if a person looks at it correctly, if one does a lot of scrolling, the dust collection is just as important as the scroll saw..1 point

thanks everybody! yeah, Meflick, I understand what youre saying, and its what a number of other people have told me so far. the thing is, I like that feeling I get when some kid sees the bargain. as long as I can make a decent living, I'd like to make as many people as happy as possible. I'm just weird that way. call it socialism. Avanti Popolo!1 point -
