  2. The pattern is by Sheila Landry and purchased from her website. I used 1/2" Aspen approximately 8" x 8" and FD UR #1 blades. This one took hours to cut. I didn't count the frets, but it mush be over 200. Comments welcome.

  3. I tried the blue painters tape on the wood and glue the pattern to the tape today and I must say I have never had a pattern come off so easy in my life. No more scraping patterns with my pocket knife no more getting hot fingers while trying to loosen the pattern with a hair dryer. I should have found this forum years ago.

    King Scroll Saw

Seen a brand new EX-16 on ebay still boxed.. price is $550.. Not sure what a new one cost.. but the new King one is $599.. just my opinion... but I'd pay $50 more and have the option to return it.. or if nothing more.. for the warranty.. If they put that one on ebay down a bit more.. it could be an awesome deal..

  8. Even with a really waxed table, there was too much drag to freely spin my medium sized fretwork pieces around. For those of you that have experienced this on the dw788 table (with the heavy mill marks), you already know what I'm talking about. BM table mill marks (at least on my particular saw) are "sharper"/more pronounced, if that makes sense. Anyway, the drag was unacceptable. This image will give you an idea of the issue. So, I took a trick from the dw788 playbook, and used the same general approach many have done on the 788 to smooth my Hawk table. 1. Got out the random orbital sander, but on the 110 grit, and went over the table.2. Switched to 220 grit and went over the table3. Put a cloth over the end of the sander, and put that sander on steel wool4. Put Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish on the table, With just a cloth covering the end of the sander, I buffed it several times5. Re-Waxed it. So, did it work? Absolutely. There is very little drag and I can predictably spin the fretwork piece now. Anyway, maybe someone out there will find this helpful, maybe even a 788 owner with aggressive machine marks in their table. -------Randy

This s a Steve Good pattern. I cut it from scrap wood flooring panel. You often can get surplus wood flooring from a flooring store for next to nothing. They are also good for desk names. John Old Dust

  11. True I forgot about hegner. Your right about getting the best. I can't spend that kind of money on a saw for a hobby. Anyway the ford and chevy statements in the eye of the beholder. I always said ford stands for fix or repair daily(LOL).

    Animal Puzzles Finish

I forgot to answer your question... mineral oil does not make them darker, but it does bring out the grain and natural color in the poplar. Here are ones I just cut and have drying... Every time I go to Lowes/Home Depot for wood I look for varying light and dark pieces. Some animals look better in a darker tone.

  14. Hi Ray, Welcome to Animal Puzzle Anonymous... we feel for you... Yes, food grade mineral oil is what I use. I buy it from Amazon by the gallon and I get 350-400 puzzles out of a gallon. I dip the entire finished puzzle in, shake off the excess and then place them on a home made drying rack for up to 4 days to air dry. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VNI1JI0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions. 16. I'm trying to be very patient with BM... Nikole just had a baby and Scott Smith is her husband, and grandpa is Nilus, so I know they're short handed as Scott is helping Nikole at home with the kids, etc, etc... But even sweet, lovable Iggy has his limits. They've had my $1700 for 2 months as of this coming Friday and I have no working saw. Keep in mind while watching the videos, the frames per second the camera is filming changes how things look in person a little bit. The overall vibration of the saw is worse and the side to side movement of the blade is even more pronounced in person... Can you imagine trying to start a cut on a line with that blade vibrating side to side like that? I was getting a headache after an hour of cutting because the vibration was also making the piece I was cutting move so much it was "blurry" and my eyes were straining to focus on the lines I was trying to cut along. I swear to all of you the tension is perfect. Perfect ping, no blade breakage, no flexing while cutting. If it weren't for the forward/aggressiveness pitch of the blade adjusting all by itself due to vibration, my puzzle pieces slide in and out both ways as they should. I truly appreciate the comments, ideas and input by all of you.

  17. We have a couple of craft stores and the are great if you like sewing and bead jewelry making and paints for the artist but not much of anything else. I went into Michael's In the US last year and I was gobsmacked by the range of craft supplies they even sold thin BB sheets. OK now I'm crying, I want to go into a Michael's again. Marg

    Santa is on his way

Two down and five to go. The box is made from curly maple and walnut the pattern is from Steve Good. I should never make things that my wife wants for gifts to relatives because they turn into a gift that keeps on giving.

  40. The only bad that I see in doing this is that it removes the aluminum oxide coating from the table. As long as wax is kept on it, you shouldn't have a problem, but the aluminum surface will deteriorate quickly if you fail to keep it waxed. It will also leave gray marks on the wood if the wax is gone. Keep it waxed from now on and it should be good. I don't understand why so many woodworking tools are built with rough or ridged tables. The designers are apparently not and have never been woodworkers. Charley

    Glue for patterns

I use regular craft glue sticks. I stock up this time of year when the school supplies are on sale. I use this method because I don't like the fumes of spray glue.

  47. If I could suggest one thing to Bushton that might really help, it would be that "On a premium saw, your customer expect attention to detail." The sticker thing is not important, and just wasted a little of my time, which is pretty normal for learning a new tool, so moving on. If this is the worse thing about the saw, then the BM will reign as the best saw ever.

  48. Jim, about a year ago I started using a scotchbrite ball (red) that I found at Harbor Freight. I either use it on my drill press or on a hand held drill. Now, I almost never use sandpaper or an exacto knife to clean off cutting fuzz and I make sure I hit it from all directions. Even delicate cuts are not affected as long as I don't press too hard. For about $10, its worth a try.
