  1. so it will sit 90 years on the shelf. I can remember that song as a kid. This is a Steve Good pattern that I did an inlay instead of an overlay like the plans called for. Made of cherry and walnut.

    Olive wood

Lumber yards I deal with here, say they cannot order olive wood. Yet I walked into Home Sense and bought olive wood cutting boards made in Italy for $12.00, gotta love the wood. Slabbed them in half and cut these out of them. The pieces measure 4 1/2 x 7 x 3/8ths, total height 10 1/2 inches. The first pattern I found on Pinterest, unknown designer, and the second pattern is by Fish. Jeff

  3. Here is my first stab at a video showing the entire cutting of an animal puzzle. I'll need to work on lighting to create a better example, but if you're bored, take a look.

  4. The shop is a mess ,no room to walk, dust and saw dust everywhere, boxes falling upon boxes digging for something behind them.A never ending battle and an eye sore.I do what i can when i can.i found the teak veneered plywood i started the 10 commandment on and said this is over due .I stopped cutting it because of the horrendous pain in my neck for 2 months .I finished one tablet and worked on the 2nd till dark.It felt good to get close to finishing it.I'm thinking maybe gold pain on the 3/4" edges to hide the ply grain or black or fancy it up with gold lined in black. The more you do the better it will look I'm sure. And the the piano hinge i have is not the best looking but paint hides a lot of sins.I'm afraid because of the close tolerances that maybe the tiny veneer might come off taking the pattern off. Will try to finish cutting tomorrow if no interruptions,Pictures tomorrow.

  6. Reccomended size of this pattern is 10 x 14 inches, As usual I reduced size to make it more difficult and interesting to cut - my project is 8 x 12 inches. pattern by Alex Fox - http://alexscrollsaw.wixsite.com/scrollsawpatterns/patterns

  9. I've been able all these years to enlarge patterns and words but for the life of me i can't enlarge some words to fit in a space 10.5" x11' ="Live happy healthy and free".The letters need to be horizontal instead of vertical with spaces between each and at the beginning and at the end.No quotation marks.

  10. I have been seeing handles for drinking glasses but had not seen one for the standard sized Dixie Cups. You know those Red, Blue , Yellow ones. The ones you see a lot at parties. Well I designed a holder for one. I made it out of some scrap 3/4 BB ply. Sealed it with Teak Oil and then shellac. DW

Well, don't they have a different power in the UK? So it has to come from over there. And, there are two types of foot switches, "dead man" and the "press on, press off". I think most, but not all use the "dead man" type. I got a Treadlite II with my Hegner. I like it the best of all the foot switches I have used. I didn't think I would, it is smaller in size than the others I have owned, but I do like it best. I do not know if you can get them for your voltage. Might be worth checking though.

A foot switch is just that... A Switch. Almost any type will work so long as it's amp rating is high enough. You should have no problem with any good foot switch

  17. Great work once again Dave...love the inlay.. You have reversed the song a bit.....Johhny Cash did this song also. My grandfather's clock was too large for the shelfSo it stood ninety years on the floorIt was taller by half than the old man himselfThough it weighed not a pennyweight more

Those are fantastic! We have a fellow at the woodworking club that brings some home from Israel we he goes. He says only an arborist can cut olive trees in Israel. His friend saves him pieces and it is cheaper to pay the extra on luggage weight than buying some and ship it.

  38. I typically use the Hegner for Puzzleboxes, but, the Hawk BM series claims to go 2.5", and have a longer stroke, so I thought I would give the Hawk a try and max it out. Here I use Padauk glued to Maple, and am using the Pegas #3 from a batch Hawkeye graciously let me have to try out. The kerf on the Pegas is pretty freaking tight for staying true at 2.5", so this is a very very good test. I did have to switch out "Thumb Screws" to find one that wasn't oriented in the down position when tightened (or I wouldn't have had clearance). I love making these puzzle boxes, I'll post the completed box if I don't mess it up. ------Randy

  41. I wanted to try making a video of my overall puzzle making process, so I shot a series of 3 videos this morning and found software that allowed me to merge them together into a single clip (not free software, had to buy a license for it). Here is my first attempt. My phone kept unfocusing and focusing which I know is annoying, my apologies. I'll try again some time to make a better version but this should give you an idea of my overall process which I've shared out here in words before. After making it I realized I had about 55 puzzles in various stages of my process... Kind of nuts, huh? Let me know what you think and if you have any questions.

  45. Scott, A great video, but you left out your shrink wrapping system. Where do you get your shrink wrap and how do you do it? Your work area is also much neater than my shop, but I'm usually building large cabinets, etc. as well as doing small scroll saw work at the same time. When scrolling, I always drill the holes and cut the inside areas of my work first. This gives me more to hang onto during most of the cutting process and reduces breakage. I then work gradually outward from the approximate center and cut the outer profiles last, but much of what I do is considerably smaller than what you do. Charley

  47. Nice assembly line. I can see why you want a top of the line scroll saw. Do you use poplar for most of your puzzles? With your puzzle post I am thinking of making a few because it looks like fun. It would be something new for me as I am just getting into scrolling.
