    Montana Strong

I came up with a way to use up all the scrap left over from my bigger Montana signs. This seems to be the popular attitude this year, especially as we are still in the middle of wildfire season.

  2. I've enjoyed cutting the couple of puzzles from this pattern Iggy posted a few days ago.. Then I thought.. just because it's a puzzle pattern doesn't mean it has to end up as a puzzle.. If one likes the design of these puzzles.. but puzzles really aren't your thing.. keep in mind.. designs can be modified for various other things.. I made this into a desk clock.. but one could make it as a leash holder, key rack etc etc.. There are a bunch of these wonderful puzzle designs on Iggys web site... I think I will be placing a nice order for several of these patterns in the future.. Can't think of the web site's off the top of my head where these patterns can be bought but I am sure Iggy will post it in a reply shortly.. Thanks Iggy for offering this pattern up for us to try..

    Anniversary Portrait

Portrait of my wife and I from our wedding. I gave it to her Monday on our anniversary and she loved it. Thanks for another great pattern DonR. 1/4 Mahogany with BB backer. Cut with FD #2 spiral blades. It was my first cut with spiral blades but I got used to them pretty quickly.

  5. This pattern is by Jacob Fowler and found in the book "Woodworkers Pattern Book". He called it the 'Delicate Doe", but I renamed it the "Delicate Fawn" because we have a visit about once a week from a fawn just like this one. I enlarged the pattern by 40% to fit an 11" x 14" frame. I used 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood and FD UR #1 blades. The backing is black mat board. I framed it at ArtCrafters using Acrylic rather than glass. Comments welcome.

  8. I have been seeing handles for drinking glasses but had not seen one for the standard sized Dixie Cups. You know those Red, Blue , Yellow ones. The ones you see a lot at parties. Well I designed a holder for one. I made it out of some scrap 3/4 BB ply. Sealed it with Teak Oil and then shellac. DW

  9. I started mine about a year ago. First it was just the colors of the stains used for the projects. Then I could try different colors and see what worked best. Eventually I got into a full log. SIze, time, species etc. It helps when talking to a customer on a custom order where I have a general idea of time species and stuff. Makes giving them a closer "ball park " price to see if they are serious and interested. Also aids in keeping working inventory in my shop. Good question, thanks for asking. Looking forward to other replies as well.

  10. I saw this tray on a Gwinnett woodworking video and look like a good idea. It did make the stand more stable and I run the saw at full speed and it runs smooth. The tray also helps collect sawdust and the inevitable small pieces. I want thank Gwinnett woodworking club for the idea.

    Good deal on wood

I was in Lowes yesterday buying wood and bought what I would have believed to be the worst piece of oak ever on the rack. It was 4' long and 10" wide (9.5) but I only needed 45" and about 8" wide. Took some measurements with my tape measure and found that every defect in this board could be cut out for the project I was doing. Talked to one of the representatives and he took 30% off the price. Showed my military ID at the check out, and got another 10%. Already have it cut to sizes I need, and every piece I'm cutting is perfect. I think I got a pretty good deal on the wood. wish I would have took photos of that board, but I'll post photos of finished product.

  12. I received the new lower arm for the saw today and I just swapped it out... (At least now I know how to dismantle the lower half of the saw) and early, quick testing is very promising. After 4 attempts I was able to cut a small puzzle piece and get it to slide in and out both sides. It's hot, 90+ degrees in my garage so I had to quit before I left a big puddle in the middle of the floor. The blade is not moving side to side as it was before and the overall vibration of the saw is almost completely gone! I'm feeling pretty good about it so far. More testing to be done over the next few days. I need to cut kids puzzles next week which will be a good "easy" test for the saw to break it in and for me to get familiar with it. Iggy is hoping for the best.

  13. I got to thinkin' about this yesterday while sitting here in my chair, hoping the room would soon stop spinnin'. My allergies have settled into my ears. My bride says no shop work til we see the Sawbones, so my mind spins, too. I started keeping a journal recently on some different projects, mainly out of curiosity of time involved more than anything. But I also scribbled the wood species I used, blades, measurements, etc. In the 26 years I've been scrolling, I've never done this. I've found my memory ain't what it used to be, either.:( That was another reason for the journal. I also scribbled down adjustments I made to the saw thru the coarse of the project. That didn't amount to much, but a reference i reckon. I don't consider myself perfect my no means, but I am a perfectionist. And no two projects turn out the same, at least for me. So, I just thought I'd throw this out there & see what the rest of ya do, or think. Thank you in advance for your time & replies.

    Bragging for Harvey

I just received 2 new patterns from Harvey that I asked him to create based on a casual request someone made about a month ago. I sent him a rough outline for each and this is the end result... I think they're fabulous. Available to buy if interested. He has other sport themed ones as well but he had never done any for soccer. You can see his others here. http://www.woodenteddybearonline.com/x/home.php?cat=1007

  15. For a long time I kept good notes, but I guess I getting lazy in my old age. (I'm a 'general' woodworker and not just a scroller.) And even though I'm mostly a hobbyist, I tried to track everything: what was made Where the plans/pattern came from what, if any, modifications I made to the plans/pattern they type of wood(s). If I'm following plans I'd list any substitutions or stock that I choose to employ. where I got the stock careful notes on finishing, , colors, number of coats, blah, blah who the project is made for, if not us problems I encountered and what I did to resolve them and how I install the project (for cabinets, shelving, special molding - especially if it's in someone else's house) time and charges if it was a custom job for cash or trade and if a project had outside cost, other than the usual stuff, say glass for a cabinet door. Who I got it from and what they charged. At the back I keep a list of odd (rarely used tools/jigs) and where I stashed them. An entry might read: Small cross cut sled: west wall of garage near ceiling. I'm going to try and get back to that, it's really good to have a record.

  18. I give a lot of my pieces to our Church. The Church gives them to people that come in with problems. i.e. Marital, dealing with the death of a loved one, physical or mental abuse, etc. etc. Therefore, I can give the same pattern any number of times. Have learned to write the lumber dimensions & amount on the pattern. Also, the resizing percentage.

    Good deal on wood

Kevin, sometimes there is no option to buying from the big box stores(BBS), I know that I have no option. Even the selection at the BBS around here are pitiful, the only type of hardwood they carry is hard maple and if your lucky you might find a descent piece of oak. For me to get anything other them those two types of hardwood, I have to drive over 90 miles to another BBS. And the selection there still isn't anything to write home about, try to get a piece of Cherry, Walnut, or Purpleheart it isn't available most of the time. And if I have to order it in, it takes at least two weeks to get it. Len

    Upgrading Software

I took a look and it doesn't seem like I have control over that. It's probably not a bad thing, since the "Mark Forum Read" and "Start New Topic" buttons are so close to each other.

    Upgrading Software

I finished the upgrade. Everything looks to be in place. Some of the colors are a bit wonky, so I'll fiddle around with that as I get a chance. One cool new feature, instead of the Like button, we now have a heart button. If you hover over it, you can choose different kinds of "likes" like Thanks, Ha Ha, Confused, Sad, and Heart. I think they added a few other features too, that I'll look at closer as I get the chance.

A foot switch is just that... A Switch. Almost any type will work so long as it's amp rating is high enough. You should have no problem with any good foot switch
