I had created a couple of videos to share here and on a Facebook group page I'm part of and I knew I was getting hundreds of views, but suddenly I had people commenting, emailing and folks subscribing to my YouTube page... now I know where some of the interest came from... Steve Good featured me on his site. I had no idea. http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/ Scroll down a little bit, right after his videos of the midwest scroll show. Now I feel compelled to make some more videos. LOL6 points

Takes at least an hour to cut then 30 minutes to finish. I round over all the puzzles to make the edges smooth. If I color the piece (my least favorite part) another 15 minutes. I don't like coloring wood because it takes away the look of the grain but with a base a little color makes the puzzle stand out.6 points

Animal "Puzzles"
barb.j.enders and 4 others reacted to JOE_M for a topic
Not really my thing but I was babysitting a cnc router a few weeks ago so I cut out about 20 of these on the scroll saw to kill time, using common pine I had laying around. Here's half, the rest are drying in the workshop. The book advertised "complete instructions" and the instructions for the colors were "this is a trade secret." That was probably the best written part of the book, which is now in the garbage. I can't really tell what level they're geared for - there is no continuity between animals - but they're going to a 4-1/2 year old. Colors are diluted acrylics, wood dyes, wood stains, and whatever else I had in the shop. Finish is just a couple shots of lacquer. I tried the cut shellac people suggested, it just ran right off. I tried dipping shellac straight out of the can, it stuck but was very rough and impossible to sand the edges smooth. I tried dipping in tung oil and the tung oil turned grayish purple green and ran off, except for the nooks and crannies where it stuck in big blobs that made it impossible to fit the pieces together until I scraped them off. On the bright side, I got rid of a few cans of finish that were just going stale on the shelf.5 points -
Last week on Thursday I felt like making a bracelet as I don't wear a watch anymore with the fact that I carry a work and personal smartphone . These are a mix of domestic and exotic. Wood Made a mini one for my 5 year old son cause you know he has got to have one of everything I cut The pics suck cause I lost daylight. Getting great comments at work and a few on the train...4 points

I had seen another offering by Harvey on Wooden Teddy Bear but never remembered to ask him about them, but finally did... We're all familiar with his dog puzzles that spell out the breed with each letter being a puzzle piece. Well, he also offers them as non-puzzles in that the letters are still there, but they aren't each cut out. And as part of a "set", he includes a miniature version in that format as well as just an outline of the dog with no lettering that can be cut as ornaments. Attached is a sample along with his suggestion on how to cut the small ornaments. They sell for $4.50 plus shipping at WTB but I spoke with him about it and suggested me selling them for $3.50 with free email delivery. Let me know if you're interested in these. I've set up a new category on my website for ordering. www.WoodcraftByScott.com Iggy1 point

Hey Hawkeye, I like that little fan you have sitting on the bench. Can you give me some idea where you found it and approx. how much? I want one. I the box fan/furnace filter in place but I like that fan idea. Ray1 point -
Congrats! You're making the big time now. Just don't let it go to your head - remember your roots and don't forget that the paparazzi is everywhere. The last thing you want is for Mrs. Iggy to be watching TMZ and see a video of you and a bunch of young nubile scrollsaw groupies snorting lines of sawdust at the VIP table in the back of Woodcraft.1 point

irfanview is a free photo editor and it's got a lot of good stuff. Conversion is as simple as opening a pdf in irfanview, and saving as a jpg. If you're wanting to do patterns later on, irfanview is good for taking a picture and easily converting to b/w or eliminating the background one shade at a time to make it simpler to manipulate in inkscape or gimp.1 point

New scrollsaw.

IMO, it's only a matter of time before someone gets their feelings hurt, the way this thread is going. It would be better to have a real review of the King saw that is based on fact. It is true that King doesn't have a sterling reputation, but without a review of the saw it's like bar talk. The thing I'm interested in is, What's the saw like? Any body actually see one? Own one? Thanks Jerry, not bad for my first attempts. I emailed Steve thanking him for sharing them. I will be making another video Saturday morning as I'm setting up my booth for the weekend event.1 point

Over the years of scroll sawing and being on message boards / forums ... I've seen this and it was a bad batch of blades.. while I haven't heard of this with Olsen blades... but I have with FD blades.. I'm sure it happens to them all at one point or another.. maybe more than we know.. but maybe they get stopped at quality control.. and theses just slipped past..1 point -
That's pretty awesome, and great exposure for your web site.... You are famous in the scroll saw community, LOL1 point

i think were i you, tuner, I would be on the horn to where ever ya bought your blades from and discuss the issue with them. They will have record of your recent order(s) & explain to them it's the most recent order you've had the issues with. They need to know there are problems, too, & may work out the issue with you.1 point -

If its like the dewalt has its this thing with a bunch of nub like pieces. What will happen is they might crack and will just fall apart or swivel around alot. what i did when that happened was remove the offending piece. I heated it in hot water so they come apart and then rinse under cold to shrink them back up without the cracked piece. I also use an aquaium pump now with the tube just taped to the one on the saw.i like it because its constant and not dependant on the motion of the saw. total cost, $8 from walmart.1 point -

The small sized ones, thin wood for sure. I've never tried a larger sized one in thin wood, not sure what you would do with it, but if you can come up with a use for it on a wall hanging or something, sure.1 point
