  1. Finally have the Carousel almost finished. This shows the scroll saw work that surrounds the different parts. I carved and painted all 12 animals (8 go up and down) and rebuilt much of the original construction to include the scroll saw work. The picture is sort of blurry because I had to have it rotating to have the lights come on. Only you guys will appreciate the 16 panels and 24 ornamental pieces (mirror surrounds and animals) around the top. LOL

  2. My wife and I never buy each other gifts .........the only thing we really need is tools. I came up with this idea that I thought would be fitting for an anniversary gift to give her. Very simple pattern but I love the message.

    Fretwork tray

Another simple fretwork project I am using as practice for a big fretwork build project. I am undecided what the big project will be either a grandfather clock or a cathedral.

  4. Hi everyone, just want to send a shout out to Iggy for going above and beyond. Somehow I misplaced or deleted all the puzzle patterns that I got from him and he was good enough to resend them all back to me, about 15 I think. Thanks again Iggy.

  5. First off a Family sign cut from the side of an old bookcase. Pattern is by Steve Good. I sold one of these last time so I am hoping this will sell too. Next is a Sun plaque from a pattern by Bobscroll. And finally a Resting Stag from a pattern by Bigdogskitten11. Thanks for looking. Rob

  7. I wasn't planning on cutting any more this week, but I received 3 custom orders this past Saturday and Harvey got them to me quickly and it gave me an opportunity to do a real test of the Hawk. First 2 puzzles cut out of poplar. Meet Duke and Luky (yes, Luky, pronounced 'Lukee"). I haven't oiled them yet as I have one more to cut either this evening or in the morning. I also tested the new Pegas Modified Geometry blades in a size #3... they are thin... thinner than the Olson Mach Speed #3 I usually use. Overall, a grade of A+ so far. The saw and the blades did great. It's definitely slower cutting than I'm used to, but actually, I kind of like it, it's more relaxing and I hope to stick to a schedule of 5 puzzles per day as opposed to the 10 a day I've been doing the past 3 months in advance of my event this weekend. The saw ran well, it turns sharper than the DeWalt by far and I feel very comfortable using it. Bottom feeding and blade changing are easier than I expected and I'm almost as quick with it as I was with the DeWalt. The Pegas blades are fantastic. I think the #3 wears out a little faster being thinner, and that's OK, I just have to be sure to swap them out rather than try to force them. I'm very happy right now. Iggy

  10. Well I guess I finally had enough with my 788. I had it in the shop at the end of the year last year and the Dewalt dealer could not figure out what was wrong with it so they just gave me a new 788. At the time I thought that was great in order to keep a happy customer. Well I took that saw back to them in late June and they had it for about a month till late July to fix a tension issue. I took it back to them this week for a bad knocking in the back of the saw and the same tension issue. Well the will most likely have it for another month trying to fix it. Meanwhile I have been using my Porter Cable saw which was a backup saw. I made the discussion to make the Jump to a high end saw sense i do mostly Intarsia. I just order a new BM 26. I had been thinking about upgrading for awhile but was waiting on Funds. Things seemed to fall in place over the past few weeks and I sold a few "big" ticket items in my shop which helped me cover the cost of a new upgraded saw. I was following all the posts lately from Iggy and everyone else to see how all the service issues & concerns washed out. Now the wait begins for my new play toy. Brian

Hawk BM26 - First Real Test

You have no idea how happy it makes me that your Hawk issues have been resolved! But probably not as happy as you. Great looking puzzles.

  14. Hey Brian, congrats on the new Hawk order. Funny, I have my newest Dewalt in my car to take with me today to Raleigh to the service center to get it looked at under warranty. We'll see how that goes. I'm glad you still decided to go with the Hawk even after following my buying process. The saw, so far, runs great now that all has been figured out. The customer service at Bushton Manufacturing is solid and they'll do whatever it takes to make things right. I hope you get to simply plug yours in and start using it when it arrives.

  15. Pine can be tough to cut but if you are take your time and use a sharp blade it is okay. I am starting my Christmas ornaments and I have cut the body in 3/4 inch pine. I used FD Ultra Reverse #3 for all the interior detail and not an issue so far. I used FD-UR for the exterior. What I like about the UR is that the surface does not need to be sanded. I used FD-UR #5 on exterior. I also cut a prototype in 1 inch and didn't have any issues. I like the pine as this will be decorated and painted by the boss. Only have 16 more to go and 34 of the feet.

  24. I had seen another offering by Harvey on Wooden Teddy Bear but never remembered to ask him about them, but finally did... We're all familiar with his dog puzzles that spell out the breed with each letter being a puzzle piece. Well, he also offers them as non-puzzles in that the letters are still there, but they aren't each cut out. And as part of a "set", he includes a miniature version in that format as well as just an outline of the dog with no lettering that can be cut as ornaments. Attached is a sample along with his suggestion on how to cut the small ornaments. They sell for $4.50 plus shipping at WTB but I spoke with him about it and suggested me selling them for $3.50 with free email delivery. Let me know if you're interested in these. I've set up a new category on my website for ordering. www.WoodcraftByScott.com Iggy

  40. I would use #3 and #5 Pegas MG blades. Just try a few. I bet you will like them. The main reason I like them is you feed the wood straight into the blade much like you would a jig saw. Other blades you have to feed them in an angle.

    New scrollsaw.

IMO, it's only a matter of time before someone gets their feelings hurt, the way this thread is going. It would be better to have a real review of the King saw that is based on fact. It is true that King doesn't have a sterling reputation, but without a review of the saw it's like bar talk. The thing I'm interested in is, What's the saw like? Any body actually see one? Own one? 47. If its like the dewalt has its this thing with a bunch of nub like pieces. What will happen is they might crack and will just fall apart or swivel around alot. what i did when that happened was remove the offending piece. I heated it in hot water so they come apart and then rinse under cold to shrink them back up without the cracked piece. I also use an aquaium pump now with the tube just taped to the one on the saw.i like it because its constant and not dependant on the motion of the saw. total cost, $8 from walmart.
