    Games ON!

The aromatic cedar used for these boards grew up in Missouri, was moved as a small log to W. Fargo ND about 12 years ago. Sat in a garage there for a few years; migrated to OR in 2009, and then about 4 months ago went to Lynnwood WA. Well Friday morning it was finally cut to slices. Then it came back to OR on Saturday. By Sunday, it was demanding to be used. Well 750+ holes later, it is 3 cribbage boards. The pegs are all hand made as are the stoppers for the peg storage. The finish is several coats of marine quality spar varnish that I had in stock. The woodburning on 2 was "just because" I wanted to. The edges of all 3 have bug holes, but, not into the wood itself, just the bark. Most likely will end up giving them away. It was a fun project as the cedar is so pretty and adds a nice smell to the shop too. I did have to remake/ modify my template to fit the size of these boards, they are just slightly over 12 inches long each. A scrollsaw was used a tiny amount on every one of them also.

  2. Steve Good had hinted towards wanting to see a video of my setup so I took several short videos both Saturday and Sunday and put them together into a single video of 10 minutes. I just emailed the link to him. We'll see if he likes it enough to post it on his site as he did the others. https://youtu.be/VJyeaYMO0XM Iggy

    Face in a tree framed

Did not know what I was going to do to finish this guy but I decided to go with a black shadow box to bring our the darker Ray's in the oak. Pleased with the final product!

    Boot Hill

Just playing around with a blank boot pattern and changing it to be my way. Clearing some of the scraps at the same time. Plywood, some pine and an unknown hardwood too. Painted just to get the nearly empty can off the shelf. Made templates at the same time. The 1/8 plastic makes great scrollsaw templates. Bought "cut-offs" from Tap Plastics at Lynnwood WA. Eventually I will use them all up and then need to buy more. The Cut-offs were economical and they had a large selection too. Even other thicknesses. Eventually I will go back and get some 1/4 to make more cribbage board templates from.

    Train cutout

Well I finally got around to finishing this project by Steve Good. A lot of cutting. Almost gave up a couple of times. Those wheels were the hardest. I made it out of Walnut and Maple base. I think I will keep this one for myself.

    Dart Board Cabinet

Finished the dart board cabinet for my son's family. He wanted it stained ebony but I sure would have liked to make it out of oak. But it is his house. It is 6"x26"x38". Thanks to Russell (birchbark) for help with the little men holding the darts. The basic idea and plans came from Woodsmith Plans.

    Hello

Hi, I am new to scroll sawing and looked around here and thought it was interesting so here I am. I currently have an entry level Porter Cable which I have used for about a year. Reading here I get the impression it is not that good of a saw and maybe I need to upgrade to Seyco , Hegner, or Hawk. It seems like people have issues with Dewalt and Delta as well. A new saw for me is not a problem in the price range. I see the Hegner 18v is priced at $1495.00 and the Seyco at $929.00 on special while the Hawk BM 20" runs $1200.00 plus shipping. I mainly am cutting fretwork so which saw would you recommend and I apologize for the war of words I may have started.

  16. Well, being of the female persuasion, that was my thought BEFORE I got to the part - sounds like somebody made a girlfriend mad - I love that song Good thing for my hubby he's never made me that mad in our 34 years+ together. Course his words of wisdom to anyone getting married is to learn two simple words - "yes, dear." Might explain it.

    King scroll saw

I have been in contact with King in the past couple days. The excelsior is made to the same specs as the Excalibur was and in the exact same factory. I hope to have more information in the coming days.

    King scroll saw

Thanks for the feedback, Hawkeye. I have a Dremel 1620 (16") now and it seems to be big enough. A 30" would be overkill for me. Would like a 21" but I am guessing a 16" King will probably be a lot more saw than a 16" dremel. I am not sure what your response means, Scrollin'fool. Sure is poetic though...sounds like Shakenbeer

    Hello

Well, if you do fret work, I would recommend a saw capable of BOTTOM feeding. That would include the Seyco, Hawk and Hegner. I left out the DeWalt and Delta, Because you said you had no problem with the price range of the higher end saws. I would also include, the Excelisor if you are in Canada. Keep in mind the Hegner is the only one I mentioned that is strictly bottom feed, I think. The top feed verses bottom feed, has no bearing on the type of scrolling you do, in my opinion. Dan, and others may disagree,,,, To me it is like whether you are right handed or left handed.... I am a bottom feeder, others are top feeders. I drive a GMC others drive a Ford.... All that said, welcome to the forum.. So glad to have you. Hope top see some of your work soon.

    Hello

Welcome to the Village Will! If you are doing fretwork I would recommend a saw capable of top feeding. That would include the DeWalt, Delta, Seyco and the Hawks. Also Woodcraft is selling the King saws which are the same as the old Excalbur saws. The old adage applies, get the best that you can afford that will do what you need. So, come on in and join the fun!
