  1. I have been down and out all last week with a sinus infection. But couldn't stand being cooped up anymore so I spent the last two days in the garage. I finally finished up 6 candle holders (which I had started 2 years ago) (I finally figured out how to use my router table) and cut out a cute little Baby T-Rex. Which my daughter in law now seen and told me my grandson would reallllllly like one of those. I hope you all like them and hope to have a few more done by the end of the week. Thanks for looking. 2. I just finished this for a friend. I'm not sure what kind of wood that is. The butterfly is mounted with a coiled piece of copper wire. This allows height and a bit of vibration. The overlay body is walnut and the antenna are 26 ga copper wire. Steve Good design, #Shadow Butterfly, my interpretation.

    Dart Board Cabinet

A few weeks back I posted pictures of a dart board cabinet I made for my oldest son. He picked it up today and has it hanging in his game room. Some of you asked to see it with the board in it so here it is.

    Trucking

Been off the radar for a few weeks. Had a family visit from Germany for a month. Lots of traveling and sightseeing. The saw was calling me. My brother in law used to drive a Peterbuilt in Germany and found a plan in the pattern library and started cutting. He's taking it back with him this week to hang in his office.

  9. I have gotten a kick out of all the Harvey Byler patterns that Iggy (Scott) and some of you have been posting.....I purchased these three from Scotts site....I wanted to cut some for Kids 31/2 to 6 yrs old and thought that they might travel better and be easier for the young folks to work with if they had a surround rather than free standing.....anyway this is my take....cut from 3/4 poplar and pine with 1/8 BB backers painted bright colors......The kids seem to like them and I hope you guys do too.......Cut with FDUR #5 and #3 blades.......Steve.

  10. RJ Thanks just went into my living room and found the fall issue. Guess it was intercepted by the Mrs and she didn't see anything she wanted so it got buried in papers and other magazines. Definitely want to cut this when I get the chance.

    Well.... Crap

SAVED!!!! By who else, but Harvey Byler himself! I left him a voicemail last night asking him if he kept track of when I called in custom orders. Hoping that he maybe kept a log or record and could tell me what day I placed the order for the mysterious Iguana named Buddy. Well, today he called me and left me a voicemail as I didn't hear my phone ring while out on the beach and he told me he didn't know the exact date but that I had mentioned in my message to him that I was at a friends house... and DING DING DING I remembered... the friends I was staying with during my big event in Cary... it was her! She asked for it and that's why I didn't have an order sheet. I had simply called Harvey as soon as she asked for it and then over the course of the 2 day mega event and then my business trip, I completely forgot about it. Good ol' Harvey... saved me! Too funny.

  13. I am... At a cool little breakfast and brunch cafe in my local town of new Westminster just outside of Vancouver. I hung 16 pieces up this morning before it opened to customers. Lots of interest after day one. Wicked comments, gonna go have brunch in the morning to hang out, going to go solo and hang out at the breakfast bar... I have enough pieces to rotate stock all month...

This is a picture I've wanted to do for a long time. I first saw it on Pinterest, liked it so much I saved the picture. I could not find who did the pattern. I had made up my mind that if I couldn't find the pattern, I was going to use the picture as a pattern. A couple weeks ago I was looking at Alex Fox's patterns and there is was! I purchased the pattern. Finished cutting it today. It is cut in 5/8" popular. Not a difficult pattern to cut.

    Thanks to Iggy

I ordered some of Iggy's non puzzle patterns last week and got them this morning. I know he has been frantically busy with his two day event over the weekend and then a three day business trip but somehow he found time to handle my meagre order in the midst of all that. He provided a great service and I would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone thinking of placing an order. Here are the first two I cut today... Many thanks Scott !! Rob

  20. the pattern is done by Wickens or name similar to that I have the pattern but am not home at this time and If I was could not find it since it is packed for a move. I met the designer many years ago at a Scroll saw picnic sponsored by Sloan's. I was not successful in making it correctly but did have something when I was finished.

Wow. Just wow. It appears you have no real clue about where pallets get used and reused from

    Metal Detector

I live on the edge of the rust belt with lots of factories etc nearby. Pallets with paints, oils and agricultural chemicals soaked in are not unusual. While most have merely been exposed to weather, I have seen them sitting in water getting moldy, or covered with bird and rodent crap. (And I still drink out of the barn hose, but only after the water's been flowing a while.) Besides which, you may not know if the pallet wood is spaulted maple that has it's own health concerns. I started making gifts for my grandkids.. I am using clean processed wood from a store or cut offs from a furniture factory. (Made a small rolling pin for a granddaughter from a piece of kiln dried sugar maple that was intended for a husky office chair leg. ) I keep a special box for woods that I am comfortable using for kids stuff. Most of it is kiln dried and not something that was used as part of another product. For instance the maple cut offs from the furniture factory. a 2 x 2 piece of sugar maple was just right to turn a little rolling pin for a three year old. Year ago, a fellow appeared at a craft show in Annapolis MD and was selling hand carved pipes. He was out collecting his own "briar" meaning multiflora rose stumps and other materials. The rumor around town was that the fellow made a pipe from a hefty root he harvested, which just happened to be poison ivy. You really need to know what you are using. Some woods suitable for pallets crack and splinter easily. Something you would not want for a child's item. If you were just cutting a rustic Christmas door decoration, no one would care. .

I don't think I would have thought about the different things that are placed on pallets and that they can be harmful. especially to others. Great point Dick heppnerguy

As I am a huge proponent of recycling wood I personally would steer clear of pallet wood for children's toys puzzles or anything they could possibly put in their mouths as palletscan be very toxic because you never know what has been on them. Just a point to think on

Thanks everyone for the input. I am planning on going to the wood carvers guild in Wilmington, Ohio in October and doing some research on what some of them are using. Very helpful to have a site with a lot of scroll saw veterans to get advise from. Thanks.

    Looking to upgrade

There is a section here at the village for scroll saw reviews. My last upgrade was to an EX-21 and love it. Out of the price range your looking for. Craigslist may have some nice deals, but you have to be very careful and know what to look for when buying used. My understanding is the Dewalt and the Delta are basically the same machines. I also understand that Delta Machinery went out of business. I personally have not confirmed this though. I have some friends that will swear by the Dewalt they own.
