  4. Hot off the internet presses... a new video I filmed today at my farmers market showing my setup in more detail. I'll send it to Steve Good as well and see if he thinks it's worthy of showing on his site.

  9. Iggy, I don't do shows, don't intend to, but I really have enjoyed your videos. You have a very pleasant voice to listen to, you are not "mic" shy and your videos are smooth, and clear. I also have been curious about the market vendors, there methods and such. They usually look like they are having a good time. The only like experience I have is playing/showing my street organ at such places. Haven't done it but 3 or 4 times but it was always fun. Lots of interaction with people. Something I do very little of. Anyway, thanks for doing these videos, I just wanted to tell you that some of us that do not sell this way, still enjoy watching. Not sure why you are shy about showing your face. Your hands are not bad looking.... but that is all you show. Do you have a picture hanging in a Post Office or something?

  10. As my mother used to tell me "There are no stupid questions, only stupid people asking questions." And people wonder why I'm a sarcastic ass... I came by it naturally. :-) As a follow up and as an example, I've found that I love the Olson Precision Ground Tooth, but the smallest size they offer is a #5 so I went with the Mach Speed for the #3 that I prefer to use. I love Crown Tooth because they leave a very smooth and clean edge, but they cut slower, so I stopped using those... You'll find your favorite brand and type.

  13. To be fair to myself... I walked to the farmers market the Saturday before that, showed pictures of the puzzles to the guy who oversees it and he said "Nice. Be here next Saturday." I didn't own a tent, I didn't own a table, other than that square card table the kids puzzles are on, I didn't own a banner. Ordered and received all 3 in time for my inaugural week that you see in that picture. LOL

  19. Ray another suggestion would be to try and find other scrollers in your area. I was fortunate that a club had started up in my area not long before I started to scroll.

    Palomino

Neat puzzle. My uncle Hank used to raise purebred palominos and did not even like them. He said they were brainless; his favorite horse by far was an Albino stallion named "The Colonel'. I rode him and did "cowboy" work om that horse! Actually he did all the work and I was just long. FANTASTIC cow horse!

    Weird Holes

I had my wife in the hospital twice this week so all I finished was removing the old duct work. I have a friend helping install the new system this coming Thursday. The plan is to set the Fan collector on a shelf above my wife's car. and duct it into my little shop for my wood lathe. Then I hope to put a T in the line to connect to my scroll saw. That will come a little later. I have difficulty doing some of those things so everything is a step at a time with the help of a much younger friend who is a proficient building project manager. Nice to have friends smarter than I am.

    Senior picture box

Greetings, A lot of the answer to your question just depends on your personal taste and your expertise with other tools. There are some beautiful hinged boxes that are very appealing but, a sliding lid box like you mentioned can be beautiful also. With that type box you will probably want to use a router to make the groove. You can also make some boxes with what I would call 'lipped' edges. Either the edge of the box or the edge of the lid has a lip to slide into one another. I hope you'll show us a pic or two of your box (boxes). God Bless! Spirithorse

  29. For the record there are no dumb questions Like Iggy and Jim said you will get a feel for your blades with time and experience. When I started scrolling ~12 years ago, I bought a bunch of different blades from most of the manufacturers. I tend to go with a smaller blade than most for the details and control that I need for what I cut. It is hard to leave brand names out of it because a 2/0 from say FD is a different animal from a 2/0 from Olson. I cut a lot of delicate detailed ornaments, stack cut 6 1/16 thick Finish birch ply. I use a 2/0 Olson 28 teeth/inch(TPI) revers tooth blade. It is easy to control and goes where I want it to without any delay when I turn the wood. The FD 2/0 blade has 15TPI, it cuts faster but flexes more in the turns. For 3/4 inch wood I like a #3 with 13 TPI depending on the hardness or type of wood. I may go to a #7 skip tooth with 10 TPI. The fewer the teeth the faster and more aggressive the cut. I don't like crown tooth blades. Most folks swear by their favorite brand because they have gotten used to how they cut. All blades need to be used for a while until you learn their quirks. Most have a bias for cutting to one side at an angle. The Olson PGT series cuts perfectly straight. The main thing is blade tension and practice, let the blade do the cutting. Do a straight cut and stop watching the blade catch up. Don't force the blade. A reference chart mentioned above. http://www2.woodcraft.com/PDF/Olson-scrollblade-chart.pdf

  32. Oh my, how can I live in a deep freeze three months per year? No palmetto bugs. No little lizards crawling across the floor. Humidity is not so bad that the dry wall molds if the air conditioning fails. I lived in Miami for three years. Missed the change of seasons so badly. The smell of dry leaves, crisp apples. Strolling down town looking at the Christmas Displays, greeting neighbors doing the same while sipping mulled cider, The Warmth and joy of a gentle Christmas Eve snow fall. Jumping in the river for Charity on New Years Day. Padding through the snow with my flintlock hunting deer in January. Groundhogs Day. Skating on a farm pond with a bonfire on shore to roast hot dogs and warm up some hot cocoa. Going for a walk through a winter wood at midnight during a full moon. I could never give these things up. The only way to be cold is to be so inactive you may as well be dead. As my grandmother always said, You can always put more clothes on, there is only so much you can decently take off.

  33. Yes the tree of life was to heavy to scroll 36'',i tryed but it was too much and resorted to a jig saw with a narrow fine blade .a few pieces of the spruce branches broke of from vibration .i cut it vertical in my lap.the dewalt jig saw got heavy quick it took 27 hours of cutting just for the tree. The letters i cut 14" and 18 " on the dewalt scroll saw.
